🚨 WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUR BEST VENDOR SUDDENLY CAN'T SUPPLY YOU?

One of the biggest lessons procurement has taught me is:

Never let a good vendor relationship become complete dependency.

You may have a supplier who has been reliable for years.

They give you good service.

They understand your business.

They deliver when you need them.

Naturally, you begin to trust them—and that's a good thing.

But what happens when they suddenly:

❌ Run out of stock?
❌ Increase their lead time?
❌ Have a production problem?
❌ Experience logistics challenges?
❌ Stop supplying your area?

If you don't have an alternative, your business can quickly feel the impact.

This is why supplier relationship management must go hand in hand with supplier risk management.

Building strong relationships with vendors is important, but so is knowing your alternatives.

A smart procurement professional should always understand:

🔹 Who are my key suppliers?
🔹 Which products are dependent on one supplier?
🔹 Do I have alternative sources?
🔹 How quickly can I switch if something goes wrong?
🔹 What risks could affect my supply?

Having an alternative supplier doesn't mean you don't trust your primary supplier.

It means you are prepared.

Because in procurement, hope is not a strategy.

Preparation is.

After years in retail procurement, I've learned that one of the best ways to protect a business is to identify supply risks before they become emergencies.

💬 Let's discuss: If your major supplier stopped supplying you tomorrow, how prepared would your business be?

8 WEEKS OF LOVE, SUPPORT & MOTHERHOOD ❤️🥹

Today, I’m saying goodbye to my biggest support system during one of the most beautiful yet challenging seasons of my life.

Mummy, thank you for spending 8 beautiful weeks in my home for my Omugwo. It may sound short, but within those 8 weeks, you gave me so much more than your time. You gave me your strength, wisdom, patience, prayers, sleepless nights and, most importantly, your presence.

As a first-time mum, there were moments I felt confused, overwhelmed and unsure of myself. But having you around made motherhood feel less scary. You taught me through your actions, reassured me when I doubted myself, and reminded me that I could do this.

You didn't just come for Omugwo; you came and helped me find my feet in motherhood. ❤️

And to whoever invented Omugwo—wherever you are, please know that you created something beautiful! 😂❤️ Because having your mother come around after childbirth is truly a blessing. There is nothing like having someone who has been there before guide you through those early days.

Mummy, as you return to your base today, please know that your work here was not in vain. The memories, lessons, laughter, care and every little thing you did will stay with me.

Thank you for being my mother.
Thank you for being there for me.
Thank you for loving me and my baby so intentionally.

Eight weeks may have come to an end, but the impact of these eight weeks will remain with me for a lifetime. ❤️

Safe journey back, Mummy. I love you deeply, and I pray God continues to strengthen, preserve and bless you for me. ❤️

Until the next Omugwo… 😂❤️

Now, let me ask you:

For those who have experienced Omugwo, how long did your mother or mother-in-law stay with you, and what is one thing they taught you during that season that you will never forget? ❤️

And to the first-time mums yet to experience it—would you want Omugwo, and how many weeks would be just perfect for you? 😂❤️

Let’s hear your Omugwo stories in the comments. 👇🏾💕

BEING BUSY DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE PRODUCTIVE IN PROCUREMENT.

One thing I've learned over the years is that activity and productivity are not the same thing.

You can spend the entire day:

📞 Calling vendors
📧 Sending emails
📦 Following up on deliveries
📝 Raising purchase orders
📊 Checking stock
💬 Responding to messages

…and still not be doing the things that create the most value for the business.

Good procurement is not about how many orders you process.

It's about the quality of the decisions you make.

A productive procurement professional should be asking:

👉 Are we buying what the business actually needs?

👉 Are we ordering based on reliable data?

👉 Are our suppliers meeting agreed expectations?

👉 Are we identifying supply risks before they become emergencies?

👉 Are we managing inventory efficiently?

👉 Are we creating value beyond simply placing orders?

Sometimes, the most valuable work you can do is not making another purchase.

It's analysing the situation, identifying the problem, and preventing the business from making a costly decision.

That's why I believe procurement professionals should not measure their value by how busy they look.

Measure your value by the problems you prevent, the value you create, and the decisions you improve.

After 7+ years in retail procurement, this is one lesson I continue to appreciate.

💬 What do you think makes someone truly productive at work—being busy or creating results?

Let's hear your thoughts.

🚨 ALWAYS RUNNING OUT OF STOCK? YOUR SUPPLIER MAY NOT BE THE PROBLEM!

If your business is constantly experiencing stockouts, don't blame your supplier just yet.

Sometimes, the problem starts before the order is even placed.

After over 7 years in retail procurement, I've learned that good stock management requires more than simply calling a supplier when products are running low.

Before placing an order, ask yourself:

🔹 What has my sales trend been over the past few months?
🔹 How much stock do I currently have?
🔹 How quickly is this product selling?
🔹 How long does my supplier take to deliver?
🔹 Is demand likely to increase soon?
🔹 Are there promotions, festive periods, or other factors that could affect sales?

Here's a simple example:

If you normally sell 100 units of a product monthly, but demand has increased to 150 units, continuing to order based on the old 100-unit pattern will eventually lead to a stockout.

Then we say:

"The supplier didn't supply."

But did we order enough?
Did we order early enough?
Did we consider the change in demand?

That's the difference between reactive procurement and proactive procurement.

Good procurement is not just about placing orders.

It's about anticipating business needs, understanding demand, managing inventory, and working closely with suppliers to ensure availability.

So the next time you experience a stockout, don't only ask:

"Why didn't my supplier supply?"

Also ask:

👉 "Did we plan and order correctly?"

Sometimes, the problem isn't the supplier.

Sometimes, it's the process.

💬 Business owners and procurement professionals: What causes more headaches in your business—stockouts or excess stock?

Let's discuss in the comments.

WHEN A VENDOR DISAPPOINTS YOU, DON'T BURN THE BRIDGE 🔥

One thing procurement has taught me is that every vendor relationship will not always be smooth.

There will be delayed deliveries.

There will be quality issues.

There will be communication gaps.

Sometimes, a vendor may even fail to meet an agreed commitment.

But here's where procurement professionals need to be intentional:

Don't let a difficult situation turn into a difficult relationship.

When a vendor fails, address the issue professionally.

✔️ State clearly what went wrong.
✔️ Refer to the agreed terms or expectations.
✔️ Give the vendor an opportunity to explain.
✔️ Agree on corrective action.
✔️ Follow up to make sure the issue is resolved.
✔️ Document important issues for future performance evaluation.

Being professional doesn't mean overlooking poor performance.

And holding a vendor accountable doesn't mean being disrespectful.

You can be firm without being hostile.

Why does this matter?

Because today's difficult vendor could improve tomorrow. And sometimes, circumstances beyond a vendor's control may affect their ability to deliver.

Good procurement is not about having perfect vendors.

It's about managing relationships, managing performance, and creating value for the business.

My experience has taught me that the best procurement professionals know when to negotiate, when to escalate, when to give a second chance, and when to walk away.

💬 Have you ever had a difficult vendor relationship that eventually turned into a good one?

📦 DON'T BUY STOCK JUST BECAUSE IT'S AVAILABLE

One thing I've learned from working in procurement is that availability is not the same as demand.

Sometimes a supplier tells you:

"We have plenty of stock available. You should take more now."

It can sound like a good opportunity.

But before you place that order, stop and ask yourself:

👉 Do I actually need this quantity?

Buying more stock than your business can sell can create another problem—dead stock.

And dead stock is money sitting on your shelf.

Before raising an order, look at:

✅ Your recent sales trend
✅ Your current stock on hand
✅ How quickly the product is selling
✅ Upcoming promotions or seasonal demand
✅ The product's shelf life, where applicable
✅ How much stock you can realistically sell within the required period

Procurement shouldn't be about filling the warehouse.

It's about making sure the right products are available in the right quantity, at the right time.

A full warehouse doesn't necessarily mean a healthy business.

Sometimes, the smartest buying decision is knowing when NOT to buy.

That's one of the things I love about procurement: every purchase decision has a story behind it, and good decisions are based on information—not pressure.

💬 Business owners and entrepreneurs: Have you ever bought more stock than you needed and later struggled to sell it?

The Procurement Skill Nobody Talks About

When people think about procurement, they often think about buying products or negotiating prices.

But one of the most valuable skills in procurement is communication.

A procurement professional speaks with suppliers, warehouse teams, finance departments, management, and sometimes even customers.

A simple misunderstanding can lead to:

- Wrong products being delivered.
- Delayed shipments.
- Stock shortages.
- Damaged business relationships.

Over the years, I've learned that asking the right questions and communicating expectations clearly can prevent many costly mistakes.

Good communication means:
✔️ Confirming product specifications.
✔️ Agreeing on delivery dates.
✔️ Following up professionally.
✔️ Documenting important conversations.
✔️ Resolving issues with respect, not emotion.

Procurement isn't just about buying. It's about connecting people, processes, and products to keep a business running smoothly.

The better you communicate, the better decisions you make—and the stronger your supplier relationships become.

💬 Question: In your experience, has poor communication ever caused a problem at work or in your business? What happened?
