🗡️THE RECOMMENDATIONS🗡️

005.

“Welcome to Royals Academy,” the new headmistress, Odette, smiled as her gaze swept over all the students gathered in the hall. “As you all know, there have been lots of changes since I stepped in. This year, we are open to receiving students from different realms. Faes, fairies, phoenixes, you name it...”

The students cheered.

Isadora stared at her, fascinated by the sheer presence of the woman she'd been dying to meet since she read about her three years ago.

Odette ranked second amongst the strongest magical beings in the Pack, the first in her bloodline to make such an achievement.

Isadora read that during the great war that claimed the lives of so many wolves, she singlehandedly fought hundreds of soldiers, killed them all and didn't even break a sweat.

And worse, no one knew her exact origin. Just that she came from a bloodline of powerful sorcerers and warriors.

It was amazing and Isadora wanted to be stronger than that.

“She is so pretty,” one of the girls standing beside them muttered, her eyes shining.

“She is, isn't she?” Isadora responded with a smile.

The girl smiled shyly before looking away.

Lyra held Isadora’s hand and whispered. “Listen, she is making an announcement.”

Isadora looked up and her eyes met those of Odette. Odette gave her a small smile and she blushed. She wasn't one to easily get flustered but she was beginning to get too flustered since coming here.

And it's only been two days.

“Before I make the big announcement, stretch forth your hand for the Academy’s handbook,” she said.

The students stretched their hands and a small book appeared in their hands. There were collective gasps and awes from the crowd.

“There, you will see a detailed explanation of what you're going to be doing and learning here. And I want you to know, we don't go soft on you here just because you're royalty. We don't care what kingdom, pack or faction you come from. We don't care who your mother or father is,” she cast a brief look at Isadora who raised a brow. “So do your best and try your best not to die before graduation.”

The students gasped.

Lyra’s grip on Isadora's arm tightened. “Is she really serious?” Lyra asked, nervous. “Death?”

Isadora patted her hand. “Maybe she's just trying to scare us,” she encouraged Lyra with a smile. “Besides, you're not dying on my watch.”

“But who is going to protect you?” Lyra asked.

Isadora smiled. “You underestimate me, best friend.”

Odette clapped her hands to draw the students’ attention. “Alright. For the big announcement,” she smiled and cleared her throat. “We have three students enrolled on recommendation into the school. You all should know what it means for people to be recommended, right?”

“Do you?” Lyra asked.

Isadora nodded. “It means they're very powerful and shouldn't be messed with. They may study like normal students and train with us, but we have no idea the measure of strength they have, or what they can do.” Isadora got chills as she explained.

Did she just get nervous?

She'd come to this school with the aim of being the best. She didn't know there were going to be recommendations.

Still, she sighed and shook her head. Who cares if they were powerful and shouldn't be messed with? She was the daughter of the moon goddess. No one was more powerful than her.

“The first student is Prince Dorian, son of Alpha Theron of Golden Glades Pack!” she called and he walked up the podium to stand facing everyone.

Isadora and Lyra gasped.

“It's him,” Lyra breathed. “The boy you met yesterday.”

Isadora’s heart skipped a beat. Son of Alpha Theron? Her father Dominic might be powerful but even he was careful around Alpha Theron. He was one of the most ruthless Alphas known to the werewolf kind.

And she'd met his son?

Could this day get any worse?

“Next student. Princess Emmaline. Daughter of Alpha Ravenstone and heiress of the Ravenstone Pack.”

The girl took a confident step forward. Isadora studied her. The lady was flawless, gorgeous with an intense aura coming from her. Indeed she was powerful. Isadora could feel it.

Her hair was platinum blonde, styled to perfection. She was tall and lean with a body that could make a model drool. She had an oval-shaped face with a pointed chin, and had pale blue eyes that met Isadora’s violet ones instantly.

The girl looked away like she was disgusted and Isadora couldn't help scoffing.

She didn't like the girl.

The students cheered and clapped as Emmaline stepped back.

“Now for the final student, his identity hasn't been known yet, but from what we gathered, he is from the bloodline of dark magic wielders--”

“You mean demons?!” one of the students shouted.

Odette threw the student a glare. “Like I said, his origin hasn't been discussed yet. But trust me, he isn't someone you should mess with,” she smirked. “Welcome Kian Fang.”

The female students fawned over him like he was the most delicious thing they'd ever seen.

“I don't care if he's a dark magic wielder or demon. I want him.” one of the students purred.

Isadora's eyes widened further when the bad boy who'd spoken to her walked up the podium, his expression bored and relaxed.

Now that he stood there, she couldn't help the goosebumps that rose on her skin. She didn't know if she should be terrified or challenged.

She'd met two boys in the space of two days. One was Prince charming, the other looked like trouble—which she made a mental note to stay away from—and carried an air of mystery now that she looked closely.

And they were powerful.

She facepalmed.

“Girl, is this some kind of movie? Two of them?” Lyra was equally shocked.

Isadora took a deep breath. “Oh well, like you said, it's about to become interesting.”

“That's all for now. You'll be assigned to classes tonight. Classes will commence next week, so rest well, train and don't get yourself beaten. Go look around. Bye for now.”

Orientation ended afterwards and Isadora stood there, watching as the three people she needed to stay away from spoke with Odette.

Kian looked up and their eyes met. She bit down on her lower lip and turned to Lyra. “Why don't you go check the library you were raving about yesterday while I check out the martial arts studio? We'll meet here in two hours. How's that?”

Lyra beamed. “Sure! Don't leave without me, okay?”

Isadora nodded with a smile. “Of course not. Don't forget to use the map at the back of the handbook.”

Lyra gave her a thumbs up and ran off with a giggle.

Isadora sighed and adjusted the strap of her bag properly. “Okay… martial arts studio,” she muttered to herself.

She opened the Academy handbook and flipped to the back. There was a small map printed there. Her eyes traced the paths slowly, memorizing it.

“East wing… training hall… then weapons section…” she whispered.

She nodded once and started walking.

As she moved through the Academy, she passed groups of students talking and laughing. Some were already sparring outside in open fields. Others were just arriving with their bags.

Everywhere felt alive, powerful and intense.

She walked past a group of older students who stopped talking the moment she passed. Their eyes lingered on her like they were trying to figure her out.

She knew they would look. Her red hair which had silver streaks at the bottom was already something that threw attention.

Isadora ignored them.

But then her mind drifted.

Prince Dorian.

Kian.

Emmaline.

Three names already causing chaos in just one morning.

She sighed and shook her head lightly. “Too early for this,” she whispered.

But somehow… she couldn’t stop remembering their faces. Her steps slowed for a second when she thought of Kian.

That bored expression. That dangerous calm.

She frowned and shook her head harder. “No. Focus.”

She turned a corner and finally saw it.

The martial arts studio.

Her eyes lit up instantly.

“Yes,” she breathed softly and picked up her pace.

The doors were wide open, and the moment she stepped inside, her breath caught.

Weapons.

Everywhere.

Swords lined neatly on the walls. Daggers placed carefully in glass stands. Staffs, spears, even strange blades she had never seen before.

It was like stepping into a dream.

Isadora walked slowly, her fingers lightly tracing over the handles of the weapons.

“So beautiful…” she whispered under her breath.

She picked up a sword first, holding it carefully. It was light but strong. She tested its weight, then placed it back.

Her eyes kept moving, searching for the best weapon she could train with.

Then she saw it.

A jade-colored dagger.

It was different from the others. It was not loud or shiny, but it looked pretty.

She stepped closer and picked it up.

The moment her fingers touched it, she felt something strange settle in her chest. It was a sensation she hadn't felt before.

She studied it closely, turning it slightly under the light. “Why do I like this one so much?” she whispered.

It felt like it belonged in her hand.

She was so focused she didn’t hear the footsteps behind her.

Then a voice came, low and calm.

“Nice choice of weapon. It really suits you.”

Isadora froze. She knew that voice.

Slowly, she turned and her eyes widened.

Kian.

🗡️ANOTHER BOY🗡️

004

“OH MY GOSH, I am so excited for class!” Lyra screamed as she powdered her face, her smile practically lighting up the whole room.

“There’s no class today, Lyra,” Isadora sighed, getting down from her bed. “It’s orientation. And frankly speaking, I don’t want to go. I already know enough about this school. I wouldn’t want to be told the same thing again.”

She looked around Lyra’s part of the room—pink and all glittery with posters she had stayed up all night hanging on the wall, and a neon sign that read ‘Love is a beautiful thing’.

Isadora shook her head. “Cheesy,” she snickered, taking in her own part of the room.

Luckily, her father had honored her wish of making it plain and simple, with just some blue designs here and there.

Funny how she and Lyra were polar opposites, yet were each other’s favorite persons in the world.

Lyra’s lips quirked as she applied mascara to her eyelashes. “So… how about that boy we met yesterday? Do you think we might see him again?”

Isadora couldn’t help the flutter in her chest. She sighed and shook her head. “I don’t think we might see him again, Lyra,” she responded and stood to her feet to hang her bag. “The school is large.”

“Uh-huh,” Lyra snickered. “Why are you acting like you have no idea how Royals Academy works?”

Isadora raised a brow. “What do you mean?”

“What do I mean?” Lyra cleared her throat. “Everyone knows Royals Academy takes a certain amount of students every year for first years, second years, and third years. And there are times the first years get to train together, and also train with the second and third years. So you’re definitely going to see him, even if it isn’t anytime soon.”

Isadora stared at Lyra in shock. Lyra noticed she hadn’t said anything and turned to see Isadora looking at her with wide eyes. “What?” she asked.

“Nothing,” Isadora took a step closer. “I’m just surprised you know about the first years and second years when you told me you didn’t read the books.”

Lyra rolled her eyes and chuckled. “Oh please, the books are boring. I tried reading one last night. What I told you was the only thing I got before falling asleep.”

Isadora folded her arms, narrowing her eyes slightly. “So you fell asleep and still remember all that?”

Lyra flipped her hair over her shoulder with a grin. “Of course. When something interests me, my brain decides to work.”

“That’s surprising,” Isadora muttered under her breath, but there was a small smile tugging at her lips.

Lyra gasped dramatically. “Rude! And here I am, trying to help you see your future husband again.”

Isadora froze.

“My what?” she asked slowly.

Lyra wiggled her brows, clearly enjoying herself. “Don’t act like you didn’t feel it. The tension? The eye contact? The way he looked at you?”

“There was no ‘way’ he looked at me,” Isadora said quickly, turning away to pick up her bag. “You’re overthinking it.”

“Am I?” Lyra sang, hopping off the stool and walking closer to her. “Because from where I was standing, it looked like something straight out of those romance movies you pretend you don’t like.”

Isadora scoffed. “I don’t like them.”

“Mm-hmm,” Lyra nodded, clearly not convinced. “Keep telling yourself that.”

Isadora ignored her and slung her bag over her shoulder. “Are we going or not? I don’t want to be late on the first day.”

Lyra clapped her hands excitedly. “Yes! Let’s go meet our destiny.”

“Our what?” Isadora frowned.

“Our destiny,” Lyra repeated with a grin. “New school, new people, hot boys—”

“Lyra.”

“—and possibly your future husband.”

“Lyra!”

Lyra burst out laughing and grabbed her own bag. “Okay, okay, I’m done. For now.”

Isadora shook her head, but she couldn’t stop the small smile forming on her lips as they walked out of the room together.

Still, her mind betrayed her. She couldn’t help thinking back to yesterday, but she shook her head to dismiss the thoughts, reminding herself that she wasn’t here for boys.

°°°°

It took them five minutes to get to the entrance of the orientation ground, and Isadora couldn’t hide her excitement at the building. It looked even better than in the books.

Royals Academy—a school that raised her mother, the Moon Goddess, and her Alpha father, alongside so many other powerful werewolves.

Standing right in front of it now… it didn’t feel real.

The building was massive, stretching high into the sky like it had no end. The walls were a mix of stone and glass, shining under the morning sun. Students filled the entrance, their voices loud, excited, and full of life.

Isadora took a slow breath.

“So this is it…” she murmured.

Lyra grabbed her arm immediately, practically bouncing. “This is it!” she squealed. “Oh my gosh, I love it already.”

Isadora smiled faintly, her eyes still scanning everything. “It’s… bigger than I imagined.”

“Bigger?” Lyra scoffed playfully. “This place is huge. I feel like I could get lost in five minutes.”

“You probably will,” Isadora said.

“Hey!”

Isadora let out a soft laugh, but it didn’t last long. Before Lyra could say another thing, a loud bell echoed through the building.

Both of them froze.

Lyra’s eyes widened. “Oh my gosh, is that for orientation?!”

“I think so,” Isadora replied, already heading for the door.

“Wait for me!” Lyra yelped, quickly grabbing her things and rushing after her.

The door to the entrance opened, bringing them into the hallway.

The hallway was already filled with students, voices mixing together in loud chatter as everyone made their way in the same direction.

Isadora walked beside Lyra, her expression calm… but her mind wasn’t.

For some reason, her eyes kept scanning the crowd, searching. She didn’t even realize she was doing it until Lyra nudged her.

“Looking for someone?” Lyra whispered with a smirk.

“I’m not,” Isadora said quickly.

But just as she said it, her steps slowed, her breath hitched.

And there he was.

Standing a few feet ahead, surrounded by a group of boys like he naturally belonged at the center of attention.

He was tall, confident, and somehow… even more striking than she remembered.

As if sensing her gaze, he turned. Their eyes met. And just like yesterday, that same strange feeling settled in her chest.

Isadora quickly looked away, her heart beating faster than it should.

“Don’t look now…” Lyra whispered, barely holding in her excitement. “But your ‘we’re never going to see him again’ is literally right there.”

Isadora swallowed, tightening her grip on her bag. She cleared her throat and forced herself to move forward. She saw him mutter something to his friend, and before she knew it, he was already walking toward her.

She stopped in her tracks.

“Is he really coming toward me?” she muttered.

Lyra giggled. “You bet he is!”

Before he could reach her… a loud gasp echoed through the hallway. Then another. And another. The chatter died almost instantly as everyone turned toward the same direction—the entrance.

Someone had just walked in. And it wasn’t just anyone.

Even from where she stood, Isadora could feel it. The shift and attention were almost instant.

Her eyes moved before she could stop herself.

And then she saw him.

He was taller than most of the students there. His shoulders were broad, his posture relaxed but commanding, like he didn’t need to try to own the space… he just did.

His dark hair fell slightly over his forehead in a careless way, like he couldn’t be bothered, yet it somehow made him look even better. His jaw was sharp, his expression unreadable, cold and… dangerous.

There was something about his eyes too—dark and heavy, like they carried trouble with them.

The kind of trouble people should stay away from… but didn’t.

He wore dark jeans and a leather jacket, walked like he owned the place, and loved the attention.

Isadora’s breath caught without her permission. Even Lyra went completely still beside her.

“Who… is that?” Lyra whispered, her voice barely audible.

No one spoke, because everyone was staring.

And then—to Isadora’s surprise—he stopped right in front of her.

Her heart skipped.

She blinked, completely caught off guard as he tilted his head slightly, his gaze locked on hers like he was trying to figure her out.

Then he smiled.

It wasn’t a soft or warm smile. It was the kind of smile that sent chills down your spine. A dangerous one.

Isadora blinked again, her mind going blank for a second.

And just like that, he walked past her like nothing happened. Like he didn’t just stop the entire hallway for a moment.

Lyra grabbed Isadora’s arm so tight it almost hurt. “Oh. My. Gosh,” she whispered, her voice shaking with excitement. “Did that just happen?!”

Isadora didn’t answer immediately. She was still staring ahead, still trying to process it.

Lyra shook her arm this time. “ISADORA!”

She blinked. “What?” she said, still slightly dazed.

Lyra’s eyes were wide, her face full of pure chaos and excitement. “What are the odds that you would take the attention of two hot boys in just two days of coming here?” she said, almost squealing. “Things are about to become interesting.”

🗡️BOYS ARE DISTRACTIONS🗡️

003.

Two Days Later…

“I’m gonna miss you, Dad!!!” Lyra cried, holding Bryce like he would disappear if she left him.

Isadora, on the other hand, was too excited—all she wanted was to leave already. Naya walked forward and embraced her. Isadora smiled, hugging her back. “I’m gonna miss your chocolate cookies, Aunt Naya.”

Naya smiled and ruffled her hair. “I’m going to miss you girls too, baby. But if it makes you feel any better, I will get them delivered to you girls whenever I make them,” she leaned in to whisper this one. “I’ll ask Charlotte to also make a few for Cee.”

Isadora beamed. “I love you.”

Naya kissed her forehead. When Lyra finally left Bryce, she rushed in to have a group hug with Isa and Naya.

Dominic arrived with luggage for Isadora, a gesture that made the girl roll her eyes and groan. She knew her father had packed those princess ball gowns she didn’t like. She was actually happy with one suitcase. “Seriously, Dad,” she facepalmed, and Lyra chuckled.

“You might need them,” Lyra commented.

Isadora just shrugged. She walked to where Dominic stood and hugged him. “I’m going to miss your constant nagging and overprotectiveness, Dad,” she wrapped her hands fully around him even though they didn’t actually fit. “But most of all, I’m going to miss you.”

Dominic felt like she was leaving him forever. If she had let him, they wouldn’t have stayed at the dorms. But Isadora already promised to behave. Now that she was going, he couldn’t help being emotional. “My little moonfire,” he kissed her forehead. “I will miss you more. Please stay out of trouble.”

“You got it!” Isadora gave him a salute.

“And please,” he held her hands and gave her a serious look. “No one must know your real identity, okay? They mustn’t know you are the daughter of the Moon Goddess. No matter what happens, keep your appearing powers hidden.”

Isadora nodded. He’d been telling her this for two days now, and her ears were starting to bleed from listening to it too much. “I understand what’s at stake if they know, Dad. You gotta trust me, okay?”

“I trust you,” he gave her a small smile. “It’s them I don’t trust.”

“I’ll be fine,” she assured him.

Dominic pulled Lyra in for a hug as well, and it took all the willpower he had to finally let them enter the car. When they were in and out of the palace gates, Lyra couldn’t control her tears anymore.

Isadora couldn’t help laughing. “Why are you acting like we’re going to our husbands’ houses? It’s just school, and it’s only a two-hour drive from the palace.”

Lyra fanned herself with her hand dramatically. “I know, but we’re staying at the dorms, remember? Which means we aren’t going to see our parents until after the semester is over or if there is an important event in school. I’ve never been away from home that long, Isa,” she sighed. “I’m nervous… and scared.”

Isadora moved close and hugged her. “You don’t have to be. You have me. I will not allow anyone to bully or scare you.”

Lyra smiled, feeling a little better. “I have to admit, I’m also excited. Royals Academy has the most gorgeous men,” she beamed with a dreamy expression on her face.

Isadora simply chuckled and shook her head. Lyra’s constant mood swings weren’t shocking anymore. The girl could be angry one minute, and the next minute she was talking her ear off about boys. She didn’t understand what their deal was with all this boy stuff. The ones she’d come across back at the pack were sights for sore eyes, coupled with their disgusting attitude and the feeling that the world revolved around them.

And she didn’t even want to get started on the ones her father had set up dates with.

Just thinking about them made her want to chew her fingers.

“Isa?” Lyra called, and she hummed. “What if you find a boy you like at Royals Academy? Will you date him?”

Isadora scoffed. “That’s not possible. I have no time for boys, Lyra. All I want to do is train, learn, get my powers, and finally fulfill my destiny. Boys are distractions.” She rolled her eyes.

Lyra clicked her tongue like she was trying to imagine something. “I’d like to find my Prince Charming.”

“You read too many fairytale books, Princess,” Isadora sneered. “This is reality.”

****

They arrived at the dorms, and while the room was being set up for them, Lyra was too excited that she dragged Isadora out so they could have a tour of the place. Isadora smiled as she looked around. Royals Academy was indeed magnificent and beautiful. It looked like something straight out of a fairytale, and even though it was a school for training and grooming, it didn’t look like that from the outside.

She’d read about it, but seeing it in person filled her with joy and excitement. She couldn’t wait to go on adventures and discover new places.

“This place is huge, Isa!!” Lyra exclaimed, twirling while Isadora smiled and watched her.

They got to the volleyball court, and while Isadora seemed uninterested, Lyra gushed as she looked around, especially at the boys who were playing.

“Wow, I had no idea they do sports here too. I thought it’s going to be strictly training, you know,” Lyra commented.

“See? That’s why I asked you to read the books, but you called them boring.”

Lyra faced Isadora. “That’s because they are boring,” she grimaced. “Who wants to read the history of a school when they could just read novels with happy endings instead?”

Isadora laughed, but it was short-lived because, in a split second, she saw the ball flying toward Lyra. Before Lyra could blink, Isadora was behind her, catching the ball before it could hit her best friend. Lyra turned, her eyes wide with shock.

Isadora frowned. “Hey! Watch where you throw the ball!” she snapped.

The boys turned, and one of them walked toward her to take the ball. Her eyes widened when she saw him, her heartbeat picking up. He was… he looked so good. His golden-brown hair caught the sunlight in a way that almost looked unreal, every strand seeming like it was spun from gold itself. His eyes, a deep emerald green, locked with hers, and for a moment, she forgot how to breathe.

There was something unsettling about his gaze—it wasn’t just that it was piercing, it was that it felt like he could see straight through her. His jaw was sharp, the kind carved from stone, and his posture screamed confidence without him even trying.

“I—sorry about that,” his voice was smooth, low, and steady, carrying an effortless charm as he stopped in front of her. “Didn’t mean to almost take your friend’s head off.”

He extended his hand, palm open, waiting patiently for her to drop the ball into it. Isadora blinked, still holding it tightly like she hadn’t realized she was clutching it. Slowly, she placed it in his hand, her fingers brushing against his briefly.

“Thanks,” he said simply, flashing her a small smirk that made something strange twist in her stomach. He tucked the ball under his arm. “See you around.”

And just like that, he turned and walked back to his friends, shoulders relaxed and stride confident.

Isadora remained frozen, her eyes still fixed on his retreating form, while her heart betrayed her with its erratic rhythm.

Lyra, of course, didn’t miss a thing. She leaned closer, lips curling into a mischievous grin. “What was that you said about boys being distractions?” she whispered teasingly, her eyes glinting with amusement.

Isadora shot her a glare, but the faint heat creeping up her neck betrayed her far more than words ever could.
TBC

This was supposed to be two chapters, Starlights, but I've been so busy and my brain is literally fried. This is one of my favorite stories, and I don't want to just write it anyhow.

I want to focus and actually write so that I'll give you all the best. Updates of two chapters will resume once I get the hang of the story.
