I don’t know if it’s possible to turn another year older today, on my birthday, without the thoughts of my father.
On the 23rd of June last month, i lost my father the very root of my family and essence.
I watched as several people wrote tribute about him in ways that brought comfort to my heart, yet I couldn’t quite bring myself to express my own grief in a way that felt complete and absolute. It is a strange, unexplainable feeling: a heavy, aching sorrow living right alongside a deep, profound gratitude for the length of time he spent on this earth, the impact he made, and Allah’s immense mercy upon him.
My father never let a moment pass without educating me. People often wonder how I know so much, noting that my age doesn’t always reflect the level of wisdom I carry. It is because my parents taught me so intensely.
Am I selfish for wanting him to stay longer? Even now, there are still questions I wish I had asked him before his departure. Apart from being my father, he was my life cheat code. I have never lost touch with his words or the lessons he taught me, even from when I was as young as 10 or 15 years old. His words, and everything he ever said to me, clung to me in a magnetic way. They never left me.
It’s surreal to wake up everyday knowing that my father is gone forever.
Even in death, I’m grateful to Allah for giving me such a father.
All in all, Alhamdulilah and Happy birthday to me. 🎂
