THE STUDY IN THE BOOK OF DANIEL
Daniel 1vs 8
Daniel and his friends made a very great and strong decision at such a tender age by refusing to eat and drink from the king's royal delicacies.
WHY?
1. The foods and drinks had probably been sacrificed to idols as it was the custom to sacrifice the first part of food and drink to idols before eating. It is similar to African culture of pouring libation before eating and drinking any food and wine.
2. The foods might have been forbidden under Mosaic Law. The animals used were ceremonially unclean while the clean ones were not properly slaughtered or prepared according to the regulation of the Mosaic Law.
3. He might have previously been taking a Nazarite's vow( Numbers 6:3). Their decision was 'not to defile him'. With their convictions, to eat and drink would have tantamount to defiling themselves against the law.
It is safe to assume that Satan attempted to get Daniel and his friends to rationalize in various ways such as:
1. Since the king has ordered them to eat and drink, therefore it was a law and their eating would simply be obedience to the king who had selected them for the studies.
2. Their colleagues were eating and drinking. Some of them were even older than them. So if others eat, they too could eat.
3. To disobey the king by refusing to eat might bring severe punishment from the king. So why take such an unnecessary and avoidable risk upon oneself?
4. Refusing to eat and drink might actually hinder ones chance of advancement and promotion in the king's service.
5. Why be the odd person out? Why be different? Are you the only one? If all are doing it, then it is right, join them.
6. You are a long way from home and no one would ever know. Your parents and other relations will never .
know you did it.
7. God first failed you by allowing you to be captured and taken captive to Babylon, so why keep his laws anymore? After all,if God wanted you to obey him and keep his laws, he would have protected you...

The Book of Daniel
Daniel chapter one
During the third year of Jehoiakim's reign as king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon invaded Jerusalem and carried away many captives into Babylon.
Note that Daniel states clearly that the Lord gave Jehoiakim and Jerusalem into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar. Thus emphasizing the sovereignty of God, right from the beginning of the book. This clearly emphasizes that Jerusalem did not fall to Nebuchadnezzar because he was strong but because God had judged Judah for her disobedience and idolatry and decided to punish her.
Nebuchadnezzar instructed Ashpenaz, the master of the eunuchs to select the Jewish children from the royal stock and some Nobels who were physically fit, good looking, handsome, intelligent, gifted in wisdom to serve in the king's palace. They were to be taught the language and literature of the Chaldeans or the Babylonians. 'That they should possess knowledge' means they should have had previous education. They were thus to undergo a three year course in Babylonians Development.
The students were on scholarship and assigned daily provision of food and wine from the king's delicacies. At the end of their three years training, they would be employed into the king's service.
Among those admitted were
Daniel ( Belteshazzar), Hananiah ( Shadrach), Mishael(Meshach), Azariah(Abednego).

STUDIES IN THE BOOK OF DANIEL AND ITS MORAL LESSONS
INTRODUCTION
Daniel was a teenager from a royal family in Judah, who was among the captives taken from Judah to Babylon by King Nebuchadnezzar during the first deportation in 605BC. Daniel served not fewer than three kings, namely: Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar and Darius.
The book of Daniel marks the third five great periods of the biblical miracles and the last period in the old testament, namely:
A. The time of Moses and Joshua.
B. The time of Elijah and Elisha.
C. The time of Daniel.
D. The time of Christ and His apostle
E.The time of Peter and Paul
Portions of the Book of Daniel belongs to a genre of Bible literature called APOCALYPTIC WRITINGS. A kind of writing that is highly symbolic.
AUTHORSHIP OF THE BOOK
Is Daniel. It is dated 530BC.
FEATURES: Chapters 1-6 records the historical events in prose form.
Chapters 7-12 is a series of symbolic visions. There are certain symbolic numbers.
Daniel means GOD IS MY JUDGE.
THEME: The theological theme of the book of Daniel is GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY "The most High God rules in the kingdom of men (Dan. 5:21)
Daniel's life is characterized by purpose, prayer and prophecy (PPP).
