Not all glasses are made for the same purpose. While prescription and ready-made glasses may look similar, there are important differences between them.
Prescription glasses are made specifically for your individual vision needs. An eye examination determines the lens power required for each eye, along with other measurements needed for your glasses.
Because each eye can have different needs, prescription glasses can have different lens powers for the right and left eyes.
They may be recommended for people with:
• Short-sightedness (myopia)
• Long-sightedness (hyperopia)
• Astigmatism
• Presbyopia (people above 40 yrs old with difficulty reading small letters)
Ready-made glasses on the other hand can come with:
1. Lens that have no refractive power: these are the ones we commonly call "fashion glasses"
2. Lens that have a pre-set power and are usually designed with the same power in both lenses: this are found in readymade reading glasses
Why Does the Difference Matter?
Your eyes are unique. You may have different vision needs in each eye or an eye condition that cannot be addressed simply by choosing a stronger or weaker lens.
If you are experiencing blurred vision, headaches, difficulty reading, squinting or other changes in your vision, it is best to have your eyes examined before buying glasses.
Care for eyes and you will care for your body
