BOOKISH ALCHEMY OUTREACH (SCHOOLS & MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES) DEPARTMENT RESUMES ENGAGEMENTS
Yesterday, 15th, Bookish Alchemy officially resumed structured outreach engagements with a courtesy visit to the Director of Ishraaq education services. The meeting marked an important step in strengthening institutional collaboration around literacy development, school engagement, and community learning systems.
During the visit, we presented our 2025 Executive Report, outlining our work across schools and communities, including our outreach programs, fellowships, literary festivals, and youth engagement initiatives. We also shared an introduction to Bookish Alchemy, our mission, and our ongoing commitment to strengthening reading culture, storytelling, and creative expression across Northern Nigeria.
We had meaningful discussions around the current state of reading culture, student engagement, and access to learning resources within schools under their supervision. We further explored structured collaboration models that can support schools through literacy programming, reading culture development, and sustainable engagement systems.
A key outcome of the meeting was the agreement to begin a pilot program with Tazkiyah Read Falah Academy, one of the schools under the centre’s supervision. The pilot will run biweekly, working directly with the school reading club through structured reading sessions, workshops, and creative engagement activities. This pilot is expected to demonstrate measurable impact before the end of the school term, particularly in student participation, reading culture development, and confidence in expression.
We also reached an agreement on a library support initiative, where Bookish Alchemy will curate and supply selected books to support the establishment and strengthening of a functional school library. This forms part of a broader effort to improve access to quality reading materials and build sustainable literacy infrastructure within schools.
One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity to directly engage with students, which further reinforced the importance of creating consistent spaces where young people can read, express themselves, and engage critically with ideas beyond the classroom.
We commend the efforts of the centre in supporting educational development and strengthening school systems across their network. Their openness to collaboration reflects a shared commitment to improving learning outcomes and student development.
This engagement also marks the expansion of Bookish Alchemy’s Outreach Department activities into a more structured and implementation-driven phase, focusing on integrated school and community literacy systems, strategic partnerships, and scalable impact models.
We look forward to the implementation phase of the pilot program and the growth of a long-term partnership that strengthens literacy, creativity, and youth development.
