Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) certificate is one of the requirements for opening a business/corporate account in Nigeria.

Corporate affairs commission (CAC) for profit-making organisation can either be business name (also known as Enterprise) or company (Private and Public limited by shares or limited by guarantee or unlimited ), limited partnership/limited liability partnership and for non profit making organisations such as NGO, Foundation, Social clubs, Association, Church etc.

Registration of limited liability company (1 Million Sharecapital) takes 2-5 days= 80k
Registration of business name takes 1day= 40k
Registration of Incorporated trustees (NGO, Association, Church, Mosque, Social club) takes 7-8 weeks = 180k
Annual return filing for business name is 25k per year (excluding late filing penalty)
Annual return filing for Ltd (1-5 million share-capital) is 40k per year (excluding late filing penalty).
Annual return filing for Incorporated trustees is 50k per year (excluding late filing penalty)
Other post incorporation activities depend on some factors.
Processing of Trademark certificate takes 12-24months =180k
Processing of SCUML certificate takes 2-3 weeks = 80k

CAC PUBLIC NOTICE: IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR ALL LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANIES

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced that from 1st August 2026, it will begin enforcing the provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 regarding the information that must appear on every company's business letter.

If your business is registered as a Limited Liability Company (Ltd), your official business letters, invoices, quotations, letterheads, and similar documents must clearly display:

✅ Company Name
✅ RC (Registration) Number
✅ Registered Office Address
✅ The full name (or initials and surname) of every Director
✅ Any former name of a Director (where applicable)
✅ Nationality of any Director who is not Nigerian

Failure to comply may attract sanctions and penalties from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

📌 Who does this affect? This applies to Limited Liability Companies registered under CAMA 2020. It does not generally apply to Business Names.

If your company letterhead, invoice, quotation template, or other business documents need to be updated to meet this requirement, now is the time to do so before the enforcement date.
