The problem isn't always the ingredient.
Sometimes it's how it's used.
We often see people throw out perfectly good skincare because they heard one ingredient was "bad." But skincare doesn't really work that way. The same ingredient can be:
✓ Helpful in one formula, unnecessary in another
✓ Perfect for one skin type, too strong for the next
✓ Medically useful, or repurposed for something it was never meant to do
Hydroquinone has real medical uses. It also needs real guidance, not a jar bought loose with no label and no end date.
Steroid creams are meant to calm a specific problem for a short, supervised time. Used daily for years as a brightening cream, that is not what they were built for.
Even strong exfoliating acids, used correctly, they improve texture. Used too often, especially on melanin-rich skin, they can leave you with more irritation and more dark marks, not fewer.
Good skincare isn't about memorising a list of ingredients to fear. It's about understanding what each one is doing in the formula, and whether the way you're getting it matches how it's meant to be used.
That's how we think about formulation. We believe you deserve to think about your skincare that way too.
What ingredient do you think is most misunderstood?
