Starting a business is exciting—but staying in business requires the right habits.

Many small businesses don't struggle because they have bad products. They struggle because they skip the fundamentals.

Whether you're launching your first business or trying to grow an existing one, these 10 principles can help you build a stronger foundation:

✅ Start small and grow strategically.
✅ Understand your customers deeply.
✅ Separate your business and personal finances.
✅ Track every expense.
✅ Save consistently for opportunities and emergencies.
✅ Price your products or services for profit—not just sales.
✅ Focus on generating consistent sales.
✅ Keep simple but accurate business records.
✅ Never stop learning.
✅ Stay patient and remain consistent.

Success isn't built overnight—it's built through small, intentional actions repeated every day.

Which of these lessons has made the biggest difference in your business journey? Share your answer in the comments. 👇

THE DAY I REALIZED HARD WORK WASN'T MY PROBLEM—MY UNDERSTANDING WAS.

For a long time, I believed what many people still believe today:
"If I just work harder, everything will eventually work out."

So I worked. I woke up early. I stayed committed. I kept pushing.
But one day, I noticed something that completely changed my perspective.

There were people who weren't necessarily working harder than I was, yet they were earning more.

At first, I couldn't understand why.
Then I discovered something that has shaped the way I build businesses today:

Hard work without the right knowledge can keep you busy, but it won't always move you forward.
That was my turning point.

I stopped asking only, "How can I work harder?" and started asking:
"What do I need to understand that I don't understand yet?"
Everything began to change.

I learned that every profitable business has principles. It has systems. It has patterns. It has mistakes to avoid.
It also has opportunities that only become visible when someone teaches you where to look.

That is why two people can be in the same business, selling the same product, in the same area, yet one struggles to survive while the other continues to grow.
The difference is often not effort.
The difference is understanding.

That is why the theme of this year's Òpùrùichè Brand goal is —"Work on my business, not just in my business"— this is deeply personal to me.

As a wise business owner, you should strive to find a balance between these two extremes: working only in the business and working only on the business.

If you focus solely on the day-to-day operations, your business may never grow. On the other hand, if you stay completely removed from the business, it can also fail.
To build a successful and sustainable enterprise, you must learn to do both.

LEARN TO EARN.
Because earning is rarely an accident.
It is usually the result of learning what others don't know, applying what others ignore, and staying consistent long enough to see results.

Over the years, I've watched many people remain stuck—not because they weren't intelligent - and not because they lacked potential—but because they kept believing stories like:

> "I need more money before I can start."
> "This business isn't for someone like me."
> "I'll wait until everything is perfect."
Those stories quietly stole years from their lives.

On the other hand, I've also watched ordinary people choose to learn, take action, and completely transform their results.
That is exactly what you'll experience at the Academy for Creating Enterprise - Africa West.

You won't just hear theories. You'll learn directly from entrepreneurs who have faced real challenges, made costly mistakes, discovered practical solutions, and built profitable businesses despite the odds.
Because we believe one thing:

Learning opens your eyes. Implementation changes your life.
So let me ask you a sincere question:

What do you honestly think has been the biggest thing holding you back from starting or scaling your business?

*Is it capital?

*Fear?

*Lack of knowledge?

*Finding customers?

*Knowing where to start?

Share your answer in the comments.
Your response might encourage someone else to realise they are not alone, and it might even become the starting point for the breakthrough you've been waiting for.

And if you missed today's class, where we learned the principle "Buy Low, Sell High,"

Don't miss the next session in August 2026, where we'll be discussing another important business principle:

"Don't Eat Your Inventory."
See you in class!

I'm excited to announce that I've been accepted into the TechCrush AI Automation Track through the Tech4Africa Scholarship.

This opportunity aligns perfectly with the work I'm committed to: helping African entrepreneurs build profitable, systemized, and scalable businesses through AI, process optimization, and operational excellence.

As AI continues to reshape how businesses operate, I believe founders who embrace automation and efficient systems will be better positioned to scale, increase profitability, and create lasting value.

Over the coming weeks, I'll be deepening my knowledge in AI automation, exploring practical tools, and sharing key insights from the program.

My goal is to translate what I learn into solutions that help entrepreneurs work smarter, strengthen their operations, and grow sustainable businesses.

I'm grateful for this opportunity and look forward to connecting with fellow innovators, founders, and professionals throughout the journey.

Here's to learning, building, and creating greater impact across Africa.
