Travel Essential # 1: My trusty water bottle is something I rarely leave home without, no matter where I'm going.

This particular one is insulated and has been a godsend, hot drinks in winter and cold drinks in summer are just magic.

Fantastic to see water bottle refilling stations available in airports around the world and sinks at security so that you're not faced with the option of either having to chug an entire bottle of water or leaving your bottle behind 😳

With studies from around the world revealing that we're ingesting more carcinogenic plastic particles than ever before, there's no better time to invest in a plastic-free water bottle that will keep you hydrated and healthy for years. (This bottle is going as strong as ever after 6+ years!)

In the long run, they're cheaper and better for your health and for our planet than plastic bottles. Look for a bottle that's ideally insulated stainless steel and has as little plastic as possible.

πŸ’š A little update on a big adventure and a 40% off sale πŸ’š
Since we closed our shop we've been operating purely online but unfortunately, with the economic climate being what it is and with lots of stiff competition in the eco world, our business is not sustainable in the current climate.

Many of you will know that we moved to Aotearoa New Zealand from Ireland over 12 years ago and have loved the life that we've crafted for ourselves and the friends that we've made here. But, living so far away and the workload that comes with running a small business has meant that we haven't been able to spend as much time with family as we would ideally like.

Given the lull in business and the pull of home, we've decided to put Earthlove into hibernation (the product based side of it at least) and go on a little adventure. First stop, Perth, Western Australia where we'll spend time with family before embarking on the next leg of our adventure to the Northern Hemisphere for more family time.

Over the last 12 months we've become fully fledged nomads, we've put all of our belongings into storage and have been house-sitting all over the wider Ōtautahi Christchurch area.

We plan to continue house-sitting on our travels and aim to make our trip as environmentally sustainable as possible. We would love to share our journey with you and help you find answers to those frustratingly wasteful aspects of everyday life so that we can all share tips and encouragement as we implement small changes to continually reduce our environmental footprint.

We'll be in touch again to ask for your thoughts on what this might look like (we might even have a little giveaway to sweeten the deal!) but in the mean time, if you have any questions or thoughts we would love to hear them.

40% off Hibernation Sale
To thank you for your support over the years we're having a sale. Starting now and running for 48hours we've got 40% off everything. To avail of the discount, simply add discount code HIBERNATION to your order when checking out on our website. Products won't be restocked, once they're gone, they're gone!

We look forward to continuing this Earthloving adventure with you,

Aroha nui,

- Kim & Eoin

Diaries at the ready ... πŸ‹ The Great Kaikōura Whale Count πŸ‹ is back for 2024 and will run from June 27 - July 10. It is set to be a wonderfull celebration of whales and our marine world, with ways that everyone can take part.

Check out the GΔΆWC page as there's lots of info about the event (even accommodation deals) and be sure to email the team if you'd like to book a shift in the spotting chair.

Every day (weather permitting) there will be spotters looking for whales from the station, 10 - 12pm, 12 - 2pm and 2 - 4pm.

There are lead spotters to help, so no experience is required. An introduction presentation and training session will be held at Kaikōura Museum on June 27 at 5 pm, all welcome.

Free Festivities for everyone to celebrate the whales will also take place in Kaikōura on Saturday June 29 and Sunday July 7.

Big week this week with World Environment Day on Wednesday (5th June) and World Ocean Day on Saturday (8th June).

We went down a rabbit hole of awesome local events that we can all get involved in to make our world a better place. We've added these to our Facebook events page so they're easy to find all in one place. If we've missed one or if you've got an event that you would like us to share, send us the link and we'll include it. Feel free to tag us in your events and posts so that we can easily reshare them with our earthloving community.

Two events coming up this Saturday 8th June that are worth attending:

➑️ 12pm - Stop the Fast Track Bill - Moorehouse Ave / Durham St intersection. Peaceful protest organised by 350 Aotearoa for democracy and a viable future.

➑️ 1pm - March for Nature / Stop the Wars! Stop the Fast Track! - Bridge of Remembrance
A joint event by Extinction Rebellion Ōtautahi Christchurch , Climate Liberation Aotearoa and Palestine Solidarity Network Christchurch to call on the government to stop the genocide in Gaza and to stop the wars on te Tiriti, the environment and on democracy.

World Environment Day theme: Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience. We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, revive water sources, and bring back soils. We are the generation that can make peace with land.

World Ocean Day theme: Catalysing Action for Our Ocean & Climate.
One Ocean, One Climate, One Future – Together.

Grab a friend and a placard and let's make our voices heard for our people and our planet!

A shop favourite, our woollen animal coasters are now available online! πŸ₯³

Hand felted by the lovely Haney at Jackelope treasures, these cute animal coasters are made from pure New Zealand wool.

Brighten your space and protect your tables while also adding some style. Or are they too cute to be stuck under cups and deserve a spot on the wall? Perhaps a bit of both? You decide!

Size:
Each coaster is a minimum of 12cm in diameter and 1cm thick.

By purchasing these coasters, you are supporting not 1, not 2 but 3 small New Zealand businesses, supporting one of our primary industries and keeping your hard-earned cash here in Aotearoa.

Why buy New Zealand wool?
🌿 It's Natural: grown from a mixture of sunshine, grass, water and fresh air, sheep's wool is made by nature, in nature.
🌿 It's Renewable: Wool is the ultimate renewable resource. Every year sheep grow a glorious new fleece which must be shorn for the health and wellbeing of the sheep.
🌿 It's Biodegradable: at the end of it's life, wool can be returned to the soil and will degrade in a few months, releasing nutrients back into the ground.

Today we closed our shop for the very last time. Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by to wish us well today and everyone that has supported us over the years. Special thanks to the Prima team who gave us a chance with a 1 month popup that blossomed into 3+ years! 😍 We've loved every minute of it! πŸ₯°

We might not have a physical presence anymore, but we're still very much here to supply our local community with our eco wares via free local delivery here in Ōtautahi. Order online or give us a call, and we'll deliver to your doorstep.

Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter / follow our social pages / check out our website to stay up to date on all things Earthlove.

Our heart is full from the wonderful time we've had here and the outpouring of love and support we've received since we announced that we're closing. Thank you all, so, so much πŸ₯ΉπŸ₯°
