This week is deaf awareness week. I want to add to that also hearing impaired awareness week. I am hearing impaired and fall into that grey area of not being deaf and not fully hearing. It's Stir-up Sunday! (Sunday 21st Nov).
This tradition dates back to Victorian times, possibly earlier, since there is a mix of religion, folklore and superstition associated with who, what, when and how the 'Christmas Pudding' should be stirred.
I fondly remember the annual event at school (Thistly Meadow) where we all got a chance to stir the pudding mixture 'clockwise' and make a wish. I can't remember what I wished for, but the magic was in the unity of the stirring; there was something quite nurturing and hygge about the involvement of the whole school taking part in the stirring of the Christmas pudding. If you are a bit of Christmas elve like me, you may enjoy listening to Nigel Slater's 'A Cook's Chronicles: A Podcast' on Apple or Google podcasts.
But if you have no time this Sunday to prepare your pudding or cake, JollyGobble has been busy. With four flavours and an egg/dairy-free option to choose from, I am sure there is a cake for most of you to enjoy.
