Hey Pup and Sourcer crew - it’s been quiet on socials but not behind the scenes, and when we saw an SOS from our friends we knew we had to help!
Earlier this year, thanks to your incredible support, we helped New Beginnings Rescue & Rehoming purchase Flossy 2.0. Now we’re partnering with Sanctuary Under The Stars 🌟
In just two weeks, their essential vehicles for rescuing animals, collecting hay and keeping the sanctuary running have gone kaput. Established only 18 months ago in response to a major animal emergency, Sanctuary Under The Stars has already rescued hundreds of hens and many sheep, goats, pigs, ducks and other animals in need. Their work also helps divert thousands of litres of food from landfill to both rescued animals and families doing it tough.

In just 2 weeks:
The horse float failed it's wof - repair costs estimated over $2000
Our only towing vehicle broke down and had to be taken for parts
The trailer axle end came apart
The quad bike stopped working.. twice.
They say when it rains, it pours....
In all fairness, the horse float was made in 1976, the trailer works very hard and our towing vehicle has had the engine light on for over a year (apparently due to major transmission and electronic failure) so we knew this would happen at some point.
But we were not prepared for it all at once, after a month that had already been running our bank account dry with winter hay, vet call outs and hen rescues.
If it were not so serious, it would actually be comical. To fix the quad, we need the trailer but the trailer is broken. To fix the trailer, we need to be able to tow but we no longer have a towing vehicle... and we definitely need a towing vehicle for the float too - but that needs to be roadworthy!
These vehicles are absolutely instrumental to the sanctuary.
Without the horsefloat and towcar, we had to cancel Monday's hay pick up. We still have some left but it wont last long. We also use the horsefloat as our literal rescue wheels, carrying vulnerable rescue babies to safety.
The trailer has assisted in diverting over 65,000L of food waste from landfill this year with roughly 1/4 of this (the really good stuff) going back into communities who are struggling the most. This is also what we use for transporting our fencing, building and roading materials - and the road needs work before we lose access
I am not complaining because I am full of gratitude that Domino's eye is finally healing well after surgery, post op complications and a very scary week. Sally also survived her surgery and, after a rocky start, is also doing incredibly well. The 7 hens in hospital with our mother sanctuary are continuing to fight. If we had lost Domino or Sally, they could never be replaced and I am so so so grateful to be fixing or replacing vehicles not losing lives.
Having said that, we desperately need our vehicles in order to keep the sanctuary running and keep everyone here looked after. I am working extra night shifts to try raise more funds but there are not enough hours in the day so we are reaching out to any incredible humans who might be able and willing to help us help the animals and the community.
At this point, literally every dollar makes a difference and, if you are able to help, it will genuinely save lives and we would be extremely extremely grateful.
