Feeling like there are a lot of gaps on the shelves before book fair season, but have made an exercise of seeing what is still there...
Have talked before about the subjectivity of literary prizes, but here are some found from lists created by Tasman District Libraries, and Goodreads... just for something to do.

So far, so good....and yay for the 'real' job. But...

I doubt anyone needs to be told how tough it is right now 'out there', generally. Winter always quieter, but now the roads are often a bit less wintery remember there is a lot of 'bang for your buck' with many places to visit on a (carpooled?) trip to Lawrence, Otago, New Zealand ... SHORTER HOURS THIS WEEK - Friday 11 - 4, Saturday 11 - 2, Sunday CLOSED. As Spring approaches and weather warms bringing more out and about, regular hours can be more solid, but at the moment need to be a bit more flexible. Apologies for any inconvenience.

However, orders welcome via messages. It generally costs about $16 to post 4 full sized format books anywhere in NZ in a track and trace bag (Not RD), obviously less for fewer and smaller. If in great condition, large format books are usually $11 and smaller ones $9 or $9.50. A few very recent, still scarce newer releases may be $12 - $13.50. Some special books a bit more.

Here are some pictures from around the shelves, in no particular order, and some alphabetising still needed.

It is a case of less is more. Over 300 books have been culled and donated to charities, as per our model - making way for more as book fair season around the South Island, and Summer approaches.

Some books have been saved for the Sale shelf, pictured. These are for sale for $4 each, or $10 for 3, with $1 per book going to your choice of Life Matters Su***de Prevention Trust or KidsCan . If you bought 4 of these selected sale books it would cost you $30 to have them posted, with $4 going to charity .

Although you may agree such ratings should be taken with 'a grain of salt', here are some popular, literary and non-fic...

Although you may agree such ratings should be taken with 'a grain of salt', here are some popular, literary and non-fiction titles in store that have a Goodreads rating over 4, except 3 of them at 3.9 (Flashlight, Gaza stories and 52 Ways of walking..)

Elizabeth Strout featured first as personal favourite book of the year. If you are reading-time-poor, or a fellow short book, short chapter enjoyer, hard to past Strout - also Claire Keegan - for perfect distillation of human nature/relationships. This one another for 'Stoner' lovers, or maybe 'Flesh'.

If you have enjoyed another of the books here (or not), it would be great to hear your views .

Some new arrivals and a few interesting things to look at/buy instore.

Instead of the art and bits of pieces for sale for charity Life Matters Su***de Prevention Trust we now have a range of handcrafted bags for $25, with $10 from each going to a great cause.

Also...not quite fully set up yet, but look through the drawers for interesting little bits of costume and other jewellery, remade and original bits...look out for the extra long lanyard (?) bead necklaces.

And... help yourself to a bookmark .
