Just a little update post on a couple of pieces that have found their way to my bench and are slowly taking shape in 'the shed'. These are from our contemporary Rākau Māori range with their unique timber blades. A small toki (Pōhutukawa handle with Pūruri blade/head and resin) and a Pātiti with Kohekohe handle and Pōhutukawa/Pūruri blade. These will be available for purchase soon. Tokotoko 'Kōtuku - my first tokotoko and a very special piece that was commissioned by a friend and ex police colleague, for a cousin, that lives in the UK. They were unknown to each other until later years but once reconnecting they have become very close to each other individually and through their whanau. This cousin has collected walking sticks from all over the world throughout his life as a hobby and now as he enters his twighlight years he has 'Kotuku' to accompany and support him. Created from Pohutukawa and Heart Totara with resin highlights, and Ostrich bone and resin eyes the whakairo features 3 Manaia, representing him and his whanau and the kiri kiore pattern embodies the flow of travel, waves and wind between the UK and Aotearoa, as they discovered and connected with each other. Fly high 'Kotuku'........
