Well this has made us fall in love with Frankie Stripe all over again 💕

Anita has used the J Piggies Shirt by High-end Sewing Patterns by Delphine and we LOVE how it’s turned out. Also loving the pink stripe with the burgundy shorts!

Frankie Stripe was a bit of a favourite around here back in the day… and turns out we still have a little bit left, so we’ve popped it back online

Thanks so much for sharing Anita Anita 💘

Meet Doris!

Mum always named our linen collections. Where Doris came from, none of us actually know… But here she is!

Four gorgeous colours in a 100% prewashed linen. 200gsm, a lovely weight and drape and, in Mum’s words, “lovely to sew”.

Perfect for dresses, pants, shirts, skirts… pretty much anything linen really.

All four colours are finally online and in store now.

Which one’s your favourite?

Mum always loved seeing your makes finished off with a delicate little twirl… so here’s Tracy’s version of a delicate little twirl.

Five seconds. Full speed. Absolutely no chance of actually seeing the dress…

This was Mum earlier this year in her much-loved Magda, made in our black sandwashed h**p. We never shared the video at the time, but it feels like a pretty perfect way to say a little hello again.

Before Mum passed, we promised her we’d keep Fine Cloth going, and that’s exactly what Stephen and I are doing. Things might be a little slower and steadier while we find our feet, but there is still plenty of beautiful cloth here to share with you.

We have plenty more beautiful fabrics that have been sitting rather patiently in the shop waiting for their turn online. Over the past few months (and probably even the last two years), as Mum’s health became our priority, photographing fabrics, updating the website and keeping up with socials understandably slipped down the list.

So now we’re catching up.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be getting more of what’s been hiding in store online and bringing a little more colour, cloth and creativity back to your feeds.

We know Mum would be telling us to get on with it.

But apparently, not before one very speedy twirl from Tracy. x

A little colour after a very big week 💘

These were the flowers from Mum’s celebration on Thursday, and they really couldn’t have been more Tracy.

Bright, colourful, fun and happy.

Mum had been very clear about what she wanted her celebration to be. Pātaka after dark, beautiful colourful flowers, a glass of bubbles or a G&T in hand, surrounded by whānau and friends, and absolutely nothing too sombre. She wanted the night to be light-hearted, full of stories, laughter and, of course, colour.

And it was. It was everything she asked for.

One of the things we spoke about in our sibling speech was Mum’s incredible ability to find joy in beautiful things. She loved colour. She loved clothes. She loved interiors. She loved fabric. And she had an eye for putting things together that perhaps shouldn’t have worked, but somehow always did.

I think that’s a big part of why Fine Cloth brought her so much joy. It gave her an excuse to constantly hunt for beautiful cloth, interesting textures and colours that made you want to make something the second you saw them.

And while we find our feet again, a huge thank you to our lovely Fine Cloth team who have stepped in, picked up extra shifts and kept things ticking along while we’ve been with our whānau. We’re incredibly grateful.

And thank you to everyone who has continued to place orders and visit us in the shop. Keeping a small business moving through a time like this isn’t always easy, and your continued support means more to us than you probably realise.

For now, we thought we’d leave you with a little colour from Tracy.

Looking at these flowers feels a little like looking at a Fine Cloth colour palette, hot pink, burnt orange, butter yellow, soft lilac and green. Colours you might not necessarily put together on paper, but look how bloody good they are together.

So perhaps a little weekend inspiration from Mum: don’t be afraid of colour. Wear the pink with the orange. Add the yellow. Choose the fabric that makes you happy.

Life is far too short for boring cloth.

It’s with the heaviest of hearts that I share that our beautiful Tracy passed away peacefully on Wednesday 12 August, surrounded by her whānau.

Mum was always very open with many of you about her health, and over the years we shared updates when it meant she was absent from the shop or unable to join Stephen and me at our pop-ups.

The last couple of years were particularly tough, but no matter what was thrown her way, Mum somehow faced it with the same strength, positivity and smile she always had.

The Fine Cloth Company brought Mum so much joy. She had an incredible eye for colour, beautiful cloth and anything a little bit special. Even when her health meant taking more of a back seat, she would still get ridiculously excited about choosing new fabrics, chatting to customers online about their latest makes and seeing what everyone was creating.

Over the years, so many of you became much more than customers to Mum. She formed some really special friendships through Fine Cloth, and this little community genuinely put a smile on her face. It’s so comforting to know that her creativity and love of colour will live on in the beautiful things you’ve created with fabrics she chose, and through Fine Cloth itself, which will always carry a little piece of Mum with it.

Mum and Stephen still had so many plans for Fine Cloth. They had always dreamed of taking the business on the road, travelling around the country, doing pop-ups with a van full of fabric and having a few adventures along the way. Mum’s health made that increasingly difficult, but it was something they continued to dream about together.

For those who would like to join us, we would love to have you raise a glass with us in honour and celebration of Tracy.

Coat season is here 💙

A few years ago, Ryn gifted her daughter this Peacock Blue Wool for a winter coat project before she headed overseas.

Using the McCalls M8438 pattern, it became this beautiful coat.

We love seeing our fabrics transformed into forever pieces.

Thanks for sharing, Ryn 💙
