Happy 8th Birthday to my little lovey! 🥳🎈🎂🎉😘
Aka T***s. Aka McGoo. Aka THE LITTLE NORWEGIAN 🇳🇴 and the true meaning behind our candles !!

Eight years… wow. How has time flown by so fast?

These last eight years have taught us more than we ever thought possible. You have been through more in your little life than most people experience in a lifetime. From countless hospital stays and near-death moments, to progressing, regressing, and then proving everyone wrong by progressing again. From medication changes and weans, to your seizure honeymoon, to hearing your very first babbles… and now, if you listen closely, hearing you say “I love you” and my personal favorite… “NO!” 😂🫣

Your purposeful hugs, your smooshy kisses, and those beautiful eyes that say everything you can’t put into words make this world a better place.

You have taught everyone around you that kindness matters. That love doesn’t need words. You have shown us that even though you can’t speak , you communicate more through your eyes, your smile, your determination, and your heart than many ever could.

You’ve taught me what unconditional love truly means. You’ve taught me how to be strong when I didn’t think I could be. And every single day, you remind me that miracles don’t always happen all at once—they happen in the small victories that most people never even notice.

Kid… you are moving mountains.

There were so many moments when we weren’t sure we’d make it this far, but here you are, proving everyone wrong with your strength, your resilience, and your beautiful spirit.

We are so incredibly proud of you, Rian Mary Ann. Thank you for choosing us to be your parents. Watching you fight, grow, and love has been the greatest privilege of our lives.

We love you more than words could ever say.

Today is national genetic testing day!
Did you know that when Rian was just 4 months old she had an epileptic genetic panel done because of the amount of seizures she was having ?! : An epileptic genetic test shows changes, alterations, or variants in your DNA that are linked to brain activity and seizure disorders. It identifies specific gene changes using a blood or saliva sample to help pinpoint the root cause of epilepsy. It took us another 3.5 months to get her results back ( because obviously insurance is never cooperative 🫠)

Her neurologist from Boston suggested to do whole exome sequencing- another type of genetic testing . Because Rian has so many other contributing factors besides her CDKL5 diagnosis , they want to see if Rian may have other genetic changes besides just the epilepsy part… we also participated in the testing as well to see if mom or dad are carriers of anything. I’m very interested to see if anything else comes about this but if so for Rian’s sake it may help her for some more treatments . It’s one of those things where how could this little girl take on anymore issues but in a way if the tests do come back with something that maybe it could help her ? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔Rally 4 Rian - CDKL5 little norwegian candle co

Every child deserves the best possible chance of a healthy future. For many families, that future starts with answers—and those answers often begin with genetic testing.

Our community knows how important genetic testing is!

Having a diagnosis can connect a family with:
🔹 peer support
🔹 disease experts
🔹 care guidelines or information
🔹 clinical trials

Today, July 25, is Genetic Testing Action Day! Concerned about the health or development of a child in your life? Don't wait, testing asap!

A little late update on our trip back from Boston Children’s hospital.
This visit hit me a little harder ( although they all hit me hard ) but I think it’s because of Rian’s approaching 8th birthday coming up on Monday … I always go into these visits expecting the worst so that the good news always feels that much better .
Not exactly the case this time.
Met with Neurology - movement disorder clinic & ortho . Had to get updated x-rays too… and also had a virtual the day before our trip with nutrition and aerodigestive .
Neuro is scheduling a 24 hour inpatient EEG 😵‍💫 we are due for one and with the increase in behavioral issues / GI issues they wanted to start with this first and then possibly move to a brain mri . Maybe something is going on in the areas of her brain that control this. We already know she has autonomic dysfunction and Vagus Nerve issues so.. that’s the plan for now …
Her X-rays : not good. So obviously kids with low tone and who are non ambulatory are prone to scoliosis and bone issues … I knew this BUT her X-rays showed that her scoliosis has increased to the point that we now have to monitor it and go back in 6 months for X-rays. Her curve has increased and because her curve bends to the right she is at even more of a risk for breathing and GI issues. So we are adjusting her PT exercises , making necessary changes in hopes to delay or minimize this .
All of this is scary - but if it keeps getting worse we’ll eventually have to have a spinal fusion . 🫣🫠
I’m sure I’m missing a few other key details…. Next week we will be on vacation with this almost 8 YEAR OLD!! Which is crazy that she is going to be 8 and I’m literally crying typing this post 😩
A lot of you have asked how you can help Rian : we have a Amazon wish list under Danielle McCann called Rian’s Wish list Check out this Gift List I just created. https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/3G7TGQX639W2L?ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_ggr-subnav-share_HJ82V24675SG9X5CVA37&language=en-US

Miss little not impressed with her busy week of school then off to Boston Children’s Hospital for the last part of the week.
Jammed packed therapies Monday -Wednesday!
Then a very important telemedicine with GI & nutrition to possibly start a trial run of a home blended diet / formula to help with her reflux , tummy and constipation issues …
Then off to Boston to see our favorite neurologist to schedule an inpatient EEG , talk about what’s going on with her lexapro wean - ( it was not a very good week last week…. We had vomiting - extreme lethargy and overall scaring this momma & dadda 🫣) also to figure out if this added in new med is causing tone issues - she already has low tone but since we started the new med - her PT sessions have been a struggle … 🤷🏻‍♀️
BUT she seems to be pushing through as usual because Rian is such a warrior!! So fingers crossed she keeps pushing through with no more hiccups..
then we get X-rays to check on her scoliosis / bones and meet with Ortho.
Busy bee this girl and she sure does keep us on our toes 24/7 😵‍💫🫠

Update everyone after our trip ! Danielle McCann the little norwegian candle co

Our favorite bakery needs help! Round Lake is near & dear to our hearts and Leah’s has been such a staple there…. Plus her cinnamon buns are AMAZING and she’s made soo many custom cakes for us ❤️

There are moments in life when you realize you can't do it alone.

This is one of those moments.

When I opened Leah's Cakery, I dreamed of creating more than a bakery. I hoped to create a place where people would gather, celebrate life's milestones, catch up with neighbors over coffee, and feel like they belonged. Because of you, that dream became a reality.
Today, we're working to preserve the historic home of Leah's Cakery in the heart of Round Lake Village—not just for our business, but for our entire community within and beyond Round Lake. Historic buildings tell the story of where we've been, and preserving them ensures they'll continue to be part of where we're going.
Anyone who has ever restored an old building knows that you don't truly understand what lies beneath the surface until you begin the work. As we've opened up walls and floors, we've uncovered the kinds of hidden repairs and unexpected costs that are so common with historic buildings. While these discoveries weren't part of the original plan, they're essential to preserving the building safely and giving it the future it deserves.
We're committed to seeing this project through. We're actively pursuing grant funding and exploring every resource available to help offset these costs, but grants take time, and construction doesn't wait. At the same time, we're continuing to operate from our new location so we can keep serving our customers and supporting our incredible staff. Balancing both has brought significant financial challenges.
That's why I have started a GoFundMe.
Asking for help isn't easy, but this bakery has always been bigger than me. It belongs to a community that has embraced us, celebrated with us, and made Leah's Cakery part of their lives. If we've ever been a part of your morning routine, your birthday celebrations, your wedding, your family traditions, or simply a place where you've found comfort over coffee and something sweet, I hope you'll consider helping us preserve this special place.
Every donation, no matter the amount, helps us move one step closer to restoring this beautiful historic building while continuing to serve our community. And if making a donation isn't possible right now, sharing our GoFundMe with your friends and family is a tremendous gift, too.
I can't begin to express how grateful I am for every person who has walked through our doors, encouraged us, shared our story, and believed in this dream. Time and time again, this community has reminded me that we're stronger together, and that gives me hope every single day.
❤️ Thank you for believing in local businesses. ❤️ Thank you for believing in preserving Round Lake Village's history. ❤️ Thank you for believing that places like Leah's Cakery are worth fighting for.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for standing with us as we write the next chapter.
With love and endless gratitude,
Leah ❤️
If you'd like to help preserve the historic home of Leah's Cakery, please consider donating to our GoFundMe or sharing it with others. Every act of kindness brings us one step closer to opening our doors again in the place we all love.
