Business Council of Papua New Guinea This page will give our members and viewers a perspective on the Business Council events and activities and the updates on the Private Sector dialogue.

As an autonomous and non-profit organisation, BCPNG is engaged in a wide range of activities with a focus on objective and independent policy research. We foster dialogue and debate between the public sector, the private sector and academia. In general, our programmes are centred towards the following areas of national interest:

National and International Ecomonic Affairs
Strategies for Nation-Building and National Unity
Telecommunications, Technology and Industry

"Employees are more likely to raise concerns when they understand where to report them, how the process works and how their confidentiality will be protected." - Business Integrity Workshop Outcomes Report.

Whistleblower protection was an important part of the Business Integrity Workshop, with discussions considering the need for clear reporting channels, appropriate safeguards and organisational processes that allow concerns to be addressed responsibly.

Strong reporting mechanisms are not simply about responding to wrongdoing. They can also help organisations identify risks earlier, strengthen accountability and build greater trust within the workplace.

Creating environments where people can raise legitimate concerns safely is an important part of strengthening business integrity.

In observance of Papua New Guinea’s 51st Independence Day, the Business Council of Papua New Guinea office will be closed on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.

Our office will resume normal operations on Thursday, 17 September 2026.

Artificial intelligence, digital evidence and cybersecurity are rapidly changing the environments in which businesses and institutions operate.

At the Praivet Gavamani Konekt 3 Forum, the conversation extended beyond the opportunities created by technology to the questions that must accompany its use: privacy, accountability, transparency, digital evidence and the continued importance of human judgement.

As Papua New Guinea continues its digital transformation, the challenge is not simply whether new technologies should be adopted, but how they can be used responsibly while strengthening confidence in institutions.

Responding to misconduct is important. Preventing it is better.

One of the key themes from the Business Integrity Workshop was the importance of building preventative systems within organisations.

Education, staff awareness, clear procedures, ethical leadership, internal reporting mechanisms and effective codes of conduct can help businesses identify and manage integrity risks before they become serious problems.

The discussions reinforced that business integrity should not exist only in policy documents. It needs to be supported by organisational systems, leadership and workplace culture.

The Workshop Outcomes Report provides further insight into the practical tools discussed with Papua New Guinea’s private sector.

Financial crime does more than affect financial institutions - it can weaken market confidence, increase business risk and undermine trust in the wider economy.

PGK3 brought together perspectives on financial crime, anti-money laundering, beneficial ownership, credit information and economic integrity.

A recurring theme was the importance of stronger transparency, reliable information and cooperation between regulators, government agencies, financial institutions and businesses.

These issues are increasingly important as Papua New Guinea strengthens its financial systems and works to create a more transparent and trusted business environment.

At the Workshop on Practical Tools for Strengthening Business Integrity in the Private Sector, participants explored how transparency, fairness, accountability, respect for the law and ethical responsibility can be reflected in organisational practice.

The workshop considered practical approaches that can help businesses strengthen internal governance and build cultures in which ethical conduct is understood and supported across an organisation.

Strengthening integrity within the private sector contributes to stronger businesses, more trusted markets and a more sustainable business environment for Papua New Guinea.

At the Chief Justice’s Business Breakfast and PGK3, discussions highlighted the importance of predictable laws, effective institutions, enforceable contracts and fair dispute resolution in strengthening confidence in Papua New Guinea’s business environment.

The conversations reinforced the close relationship between the rule of law, institutional integrity and sustainable economic growth.
