Baguio City, Philippines โ September 26, 2026. The Atrium of SM City Baguio became a dynamic showcase of innovation and sustainability as TESDAโBenguet, in partnership with SM City Baguio, staged the โFlavors of the Highland: Advancing TVET Excellence for a Circular and Sustainable Future.โ The festival spotlighted how Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) can embed circular economy practices while celebrating the rich culinary heritage of the Cordillera. It also marked the opening salvo of TESDA Benguetโs Indigenous Peoples Month celebration in line with the 39th Cordillera Month.
In her opening message, Dr. Arlene L. Cadalig, Provincial Director of TESDA Benguet, emphasized that TVET must not only equip learners with skills but also instill values of environmental stewardship. She noted that circular food systems and sustainable gastronomy are vital pathways toward resilient livelihoods in the Cordillera. Complementing this vision, SM City Baguio Mall Manager Arch. Jericho Jhordan Bernardo extended his welcome, reaffirming the mallโs commitment to supporting initiatives that blend skills excellence with sustainability.
The festival underscored the essence of Green TVET through Circular Economy โ integrating ecological responsibility into skills development. Booth exhibits and live demonstrations featured creative outputs such as Kini-ing Kimbab fusion dishes, artisanal cheese-making, Cordillera-inspired breads, cacao-to-chocolate processing, and farm-to-table showcases. Each highlight embodied circular economy principles, showing how local talents and entrepreneurs can transform by-products into new opportunities, reduce waste, and create livelihood pathways that respect the environment.
The event was further strengthened by the presence and support of leaders from DOLEโCAR, DICTโCAR, and DMWโCAR, whose collaboration reinforced the message that sustainability is a shared responsibility across institutions. Together, these partnerships affirmed that advancing TVET excellence is not only about skills training but also about building resilient communities and securing a sustainable future for the highlands.
