CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar β Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Catbalogan City District Jail participated in a Basic Crochet Training conducted on June 18, 2026, as part of efforts to provide productive and meaningful activities that support rehabilitation, personal development, and skills enhancement.
The activity was a collaborative initiative between Ms. Diane Antonette C. Teves of Dainty Crochet and the Catbalogan City District Jail, aimed at introducing participants to the fundamentals of crochet while promoting creativity, patience, and self-discipline. Through the training, PDLs learned basic crochet techniques and gained hands-on experience in creating simple crochet projects.
The activity was attended by Ms. Iris Monica B. Tan, entrepreneur and member of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), and Ms. Rondita D. Dacles, President of the DOJ-PPA Volunteer Probation Assistants Association. Their presence underscored the community's support for initiatives that promote rehabilitation, skills development, and opportunities for personal growth among PDLs.
Beyond teaching a new craft, the training sought to equip participants with practical skills that may serve as a potential source of livelihood upon their release and reintegration into society. It also provided a constructive avenue for self-expression and productive engagement while in custody.
The Basic Crochet Training reflects the shared commitment of community partners and the jail administration to empowering PDLs through meaningful learning opportunities that foster dignity, self-confidence, and second chances.
As an advocate of both the creative arts and second chances, Dainty Crochet remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote rehabilitation, empowerment, and community reintegration, and looks forward to incorporating these advocacies into future programs and endeavors that create meaningful opportunities for individuals seeking a fresh start.
