You really get to know people when you’re the one in need.

Not when everything is easy. Not when you’re the one giving, helping, or showing up.

But when the tables turn—when you’re struggling, when you have nothing to offer, when all you need is a little understanding.

That’s when you see who checks in without being asked, who stays without expecting anything in return, and who suddenly becomes a stranger.

Sometimes, hardship doesn’t change people. It simply reveals them.

FRIENDSHIPS IN YOUR 30s HITS DIFFERENT. 🥹😂

I realized something when I entered my 30s: not everyone who calls you a friend actually knows how to be one.

Some friends are only around when they need something. When you’re useful, they remember your name. When you’re struggling, suddenly everyone is “busy.” 😂

And sometimes, even long-time friends have misunderstandings. Not always because you stopped valuing each other, but because you’ve known each other for so long that you start assuming you already understand what the other person means. And sometimes… you don’t. We grow, we change, we get tired, we have different priorities. Friendship needs understanding too—not just history.

As I grow older, I’ve learned to value the friend who randomly checks on me.
The one who says, “Okay ka lang?” and actually waits for the answer.
The one who cheers me up without asking for anything in return.
The one who may not talk to me every day, but when life gets heavy, somehow still finds a way to remind me, “I’m here.”

Because real friendship isn't measured by how often you hang out, how many pictures you have together, or how useful you are to each other.

Friendship is tested when life isn't fun anymore.

A friend who stays through your ugly days, your silent seasons, your failures, your struggles, and even your “I don't know what I'm doing with my life” era—that friend is gold. 😂

And honestly, even a friend you've lost contact with can still be a real friend. Sometimes people grow apart without growing bitter. You may not talk anymore, but they still genuinely wish you well, pray for you, and celebrate your happiness from afar.

That's a kind of love too.

But here's another uncomfortable truth:

If someone claims to be your friend while intentionally getting close to someone they know deeply hurt you—especially someone you've had serious conflict with—it's understandable to question where their loyalty and consideration stand.

It doesn't automatically mean they are a bad person. They're allowed to have their own friendships and make their own choices. But you are also allowed to recognize what that choice tells you about the kind of friendship you have.

Because being a friend doesn't mean controlling who someone can talk to.

But being a true friend means having enough respect to understand the things that hurt the people you claim to care about.

At this age, I've learned that not every friendship needs to be saved. Some just need to be understood, accepted, and released.

No more chasing people who only remember you when they need something.

No more forcing conversations where only one person wants to fix things.

No more confusing history with genuine friendship.

And no more measuring friendship by convenience.

Because in your 30s, your circle gets smaller—not because you're becoming antisocial, but because your tolerance for nonsense finally got a retirement plan. 😂

You start choosing peace over popularity, consistency over convenience, and genuine care over temporary usefulness.

Keep the friends who celebrate you without competing with you.
Keep the ones who correct you without humiliating you.
Keep the ones who listen without turning your vulnerability into gossip.
Keep the ones who remember you even when you have nothing to offer.

And most importantly, be that friend too.

Because sometimes we're so busy looking for genuine people that we forget to ask ourselves:

"Am I also being the kind of friend I'm hoping to find?"

Friendship isn't about always agreeing, always being available, or never having misunderstandings.

It's about choosing respect, honesty, forgiveness, and care—even when it's inconvenient.

At this point in life, I don't need a hundred friends.

Just a few people who genuinely mean,
“I'm happy you're here.”

And if you have those people?

Don't take them for granted. They're rarer than people who say “OTW” while they're still in the shower. 😂❤️

Growth isn’t always loud or aesthetic. Sometimes it looks like choosing rest. Walking away. Starting again. Or simply waking up and trying one more time.
From surviving… to slowly, gently living ♡
