Today, We celebrate Diosdado Macapagal's 115th birth anniversary. He served as the 9th President of the Republic of the Philippines from 1961 to 1965. Before that as the 5th Vice President from 1957 to 1961, and a member of the House of Representatives from 1949 to 1957 representing the 1st congresssional district of Pampanga.
In 2002, he was featured on the green 200-piso note celebrating his role of restoring June 12 as the Philippine's Independence day. While the reverse side of the said banknote featured People Power II, which placed her daughter, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as the 14th President of the Republic.
On the occasion of tbe University of Santo Tomas' 400th founding anniversary in 2011, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas released an overprinted variety of this banknote.
The New Generation Series in 2010 continued to feature Diosdado Macapagal in its obverse.
This banknote, the 200-piso note was generally considered scares. You know it exist but you can't easily find one in circulation.
Sadly, the denomination was discontinued on the release of First Polymer Series introduced in December 2024.
