ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain manages executive functions—the mental skills used to direct attention, organize tasks, regulate emotions, and control impulses.

Brain fog isn't a disease itself, it's a pattern — slower thinking, trouble holding focus, forgetting words mid-sentence, feeling like your brain is running at 50% even after coffee.

There's no single cure because there's no single cause. Most of the time it's a stack of reversible lifestyle factors plus something medical worth ruling out. Here's what helps most people clear it:
Why it happens so often
Lifestyle load: short or broken sleep, dehydration (easy in the heat in Central Luzon), long screen stretches without breaks, very low or very high carb meals, little movement, high stress.

Brain chemistry and body: chronic stress and anxiety, low mood, poor sleep quality from sleep apnea or late-night alcohol, hormonal shifts, post-viral fog including after COVID.

Medical contributors: thyroid changes, anemia or low iron, low B12 or vitamin D, side effects from common meds like some allergy meds, sleep aids, and anxiety meds. This is why a persistent fog is worth getting checked rather than just pushing through.
Habits that actually move the needle • Sleep consistency over sleep length: Aim for 7 to 9 hours and the same wake time daily. Dark, cool room, no scrolling in bed, no caffeine after about 2pm. If you snore loudly or wake unrefreshed, mention it to a clinician — sleep apnea is a top hidden cause. • Water before anything else: Start the morning with 300 to 500 ml water, then keep a bottle nearby. Dehydration drops attention fast, especially when it's hot and humid. • Steady fuel: You don't need a perfect diet. Think protein + fiber + healthy fat each meal, plenty of whole foods, omega-3 rich foods like sardines or mackerel, leafy greens, eggs. Very sugary meals and alcohol in the evening tend to worsen next-day fog. • Move in short bursts: 150 minutes of moderate activity a week is the general target, but even 10-minute walks, stretching, or light cardio after long sitting improves focus for hours. Take a 2-minute stand and eye-rest break every 60 to 90 minutes. • Unload your working memory: Your brain fogs when it's juggling too much. Single-task for 25 to 50 minute blocks, write the to-do list out of your head onto paper, close extra tabs. A brief breathing practice, 4 seconds in, 6 seconds out for a minute, or a short journaling dump at night helps more than you'd expect. • Check substances and meds: High alcohol, cannabis, frequent antihistamines that cause drowsiness, and poor timing of caffeine can all blunt clarity. Don't stop prescribed meds on your own, but bring a full list of meds and supplements to your pharmacist or doctor for a review. A simple 7-day reset you can try
You don't have to do all of this forever, just as an experiment:
1. Same wake and sleep time, phone out of reach at night 2. Morning water, then regular meals, limit alcohol 3. 20 to 30 min walk or bike, plus movement breaks while working 4. Two focused work blocks with notifications off 5. Log in your notes app: hours slept, water, mood, and when fog is worst or best
