🏗️ Steel Connection Design & Verification | IDEA StatiCa

Detailed analysis and design of a multi-member structural steel connection using IDEA StatiCa Connection, incorporating gusset plates, welded connections, and bolted components.

The connection was evaluated using CBFEM (Component-Based Finite Element Method) under multiple governing load combinations, checking:

🔹 Plate stress & strain
🔹 Local deformation
🔹 Bolt utilization
🔹 Weld utilization
🔹 Overall connection behavior

Horizontal Cross-Brace Connection Design | IDEA StatiCa

Structural connection analysis and design of a horizontal cross-bracing system using IDEA StatiCa Connection, including brace-to-gusset and beam connection checks under governing load combinations.

The connection was evaluated for plate stresses and deformation, bolt utilization, weld capacity, and overall connection behavior in accordance with AISC 360-10 (LRFD).

From analysis model → connection verification → optimized steel detailing. 🏗️

Structural Connection Design & Verification 🏗️

Base plate and steel connection analysis using IDEA StatiCa Connection, checking the behavior of the connection under governing load combinations.

The design includes verification of plates, welds, anchor rods, concrete block, local deformation, and stress–strain behavior using CBFEM analysis.

From global structural analysis → connection modeling → detailed verification.
Making sure the connection works not only on paper, but as an integrated system.

📐 LRFD vs ASD – What's the Difference?

If you've ever wondered why structural engineers use LRFD instead of ASD (or vice versa), this quick guide is for you!

Based on NSCP 2015, both methods are accepted for structural design—but they approach safety and load calculations differently.

🔹 LRFD (Load and Resistance Factor Design)
✅ Uses factored loads and reduced member strengths
✅ Based on probability and limit states
✅ Commonly used for modern structural design
✅ Generally provides more efficient and economical designs

🔹 ASD (Allowable Stress Design)
✅ Uses service (unfactored) loads
✅ Limits stresses to allowable values
✅ Simpler and easier to understand
✅ Still used in many structural applications

💡 The goal of both methods is the same: to ensure structures are safe, stable, and serviceable. The choice depends on the project, applicable code requirements, and engineering judgment.

📖 Reference: NSCP 2015 (National Structural Code of the Philippines)
