Going back to the basics is such a good breather.

No complicated stitches. Just simple chains and double crochets.

For the past few years, I've been making amigurumi almost non stop. I reached a point where I felt like I wasn't learning anything new or sharing something different on my page. I needed to take a step back, slow down, and rediscover what could bring back that spark.

Using nylon cord to make bags that match the clothes I sew felt like the next logical step. It's still handmade, still something I enjoy creating, but it also gives me the chance to learn a new skill while staying true to what I love.

Sometimes, going back to the basics is exactly what helps us move forward.

Here's the finished cat I made.

Every stitch, every brushstroke, and every embroidered detail was my attempt to capture the little things that made this cat unique.

There are still details I wish I could recreate better. Tiny painted features and embroidery are always a challenge, and I'm still learning with every memorial doll I make.

But each piece is made with patience, care, and a heart that hopes to honor a beloved companion.

Do you like cats? 🐱

When I was young, I had a few stray cats as pets. They weren't allowed inside the house though, because my mom has never been a fan of cats. 🤣

She always tells me that when she was seven months pregnant with me, a cat came close to her. Despite her big baby bump, she climbed right on top of the table to get away. 🤣

To this day, she says the only cats she'd ever allow as pets are the really big ones... like tigers or lions. 😂

Meanwhile, here's a few snippets of me working on a new cat project. Crocheted by hand, then carefully hand-painted to bring out its little personality.

Sometimes, I'm in the mood to write. My thoughts are clear, my words come easily, and I can express exactly what I want to say.

But most days, I live with brain fog, a not so lovely gift from Multiple Sclerosis.

On those days, even forming a complete sentence can feel impossible. I know what I want to say, but the words refuse to come. So whenever my mind feels clear, I write everything down and save it in a folder, a little library of thoughts waiting for the days when my brain won't cooperate.

Brain fog doesn't only affect my writing. It can happen when I'm speaking too. I mix up words, say the wrong thing, or somehow invent entirely new words. My family and close friends have gotten used to it, and we usually end up laughing about it together.

With strangers, though, it's different. It can be embarrassing, so I've become quieter than I used to be.

Even crochet isn't spared. There are days when I wonder if my hands are working purely from muscle memory. It amazes me that I can still finish a project while my mind feels wrapped in fog. It may slow me down, but somehow, I always find my way to the end.

Living with MS has taught me that creativity doesn't always require a clear mind. Sometimes, all it takes is trusting the hands that have practiced a craft with love for so many years.

Making a special doll for a very special person. ❤️

Some projects carry a little more meaning than others, and this is one of them.

This doll is a surprise gift from my client, so I can't share the finished piece or say much about it just yet. My lips are sealed. 🤐

For now, I'll leave you with this little glimpse. I can't wait for the day I can finally show you the finished doll and the beautiful story behind it.

I seldom accept rush orders, but this time I made an exception. 😊

This client has ordered from me before, so when he reached out with a tight deadline, I decided to squeeze the project into my schedule.

I'm happy to say these bag charms made it to their destination just a few days before his flight overseas. Talk about cutting it close! 😅

There's always a little extra pressure with rush orders, but it's such a relief when everything comes together and arrives right on time.

For those who have been thinking about ordering, I still have a few available slots starting mid-July onwards. As always, booking ahead is the best way to make sure I can give your project the time and attention it deserves. 🧶❤️

I've made a lot of dolls for Ms. Kim, who absolutely loves animals and often rescues pets. That's one of the reasons I always enjoy making dolls for her.

Most of her orders are little bag charms, so I was really excited when she asked for a larger doll this time. It was based on a cat with two different-colored eyes, and capturing that detail was important because it's such a unique part of the cat's look.

Working on this bigger doll was a lot of fun, and bringing the cat's special features to life reminded me why I love creating custom pieces that celebrate people's beloved pets.

This cat is still a work in progress, but I’m already excited seeing its little personality come to life stitch by stitch. 🧶🐱

There’s always that stage where it looks a bit funny and unfinished, then suddenly everything starts coming together. I can’t wait to see how this one turns out once all the details are added.

One thing about handmade projects they really teach you patience. But seeing them slowly come alive makes every stitch worth it. ✨

I struggled finishing these dolls. Mainly because I’m not in the habit of writing down my own patterns 😔 As I mentioned before, pattern making is my Waterloo.

Was I able to recreate the dolls exactly the same as the first ones I made years ago? I’m not totally 100% sure. I know there are little inconsistencies here and there when I compare them to my older work. But maybe that’s also part of handmade art, every piece carries its own personality.

Still, seeing them finally completed feels rewarding.

This is my version of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, the patroness of the Bicol Region.

Crocheting the doll? Easy.
The embellishments? A whole different story 😅

I probably spent more time searching for the perfect bling than actually crocheting. Every little detail had to feel just right, like a “this is the one” moment each time.

In total, this took me 3 weeks to finish. Worth it? Absolutely. Challenging? Very. But that’s where the fun (and growth) really happens.

Moral of the story: making the base is one thing… making it extra is a whole different level 😂
