This workshop will feature four (4) traditional weaving patterns from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao: Kantarines, Kusikos, Hablon, and Langkit. The class will start with a basic introduction to weaving, with lessons on reading and weaving graph patterns.

By the end of our session, you’ll finish a handwoven coaster with your chosen pattern and gain new knowledge about weaving! Kids are welcome to join, beginner and intermediate weavers will have fun learning new techniques. 💛

Two crafts. Two countries. One shared belief that tradition is meant to be passed forward, not preserved behind glass. 🇵🇭🇯🇵

Rooted in Friendship: Puni × Musubi brought together Punique’s master weavers from Bulacan and the Amimusubi Association of Japan for something rare: a real exchange. Not a showcase, not a demonstration — hands actually learning from other hands. Puni weavers picking up the Awaji musubi knot for the first time. A Japanese artisan trying puni for the first time. Techniques compared thread by thread, knot by knot, across a language neither side fully shared but somehow didn’t need.

This is what we mean when we talk about craft as living heritage. It doesn’t stay still. It travels, it’s shared, and it grows stronger for it.

Held in commemoration of 70 years of Philippines–Japan friendship, this collaboration is a reminder that cultural ties are built the same way a good weave is: thread by thread, patiently, by people willing to show each other how.
