PIA's famous Air Hostess Momi Gul Durrani is seen in the 1950s cabin crew uniform. PIA had featured her in many advertisements and it is said that when she smiled, she made others smile. Unfortunately she was on duty aboard PIA Boeing 720B jetliner which crashed near Cairo on May 20, 1965 and was one of 114 casualties

1970: Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas Shaheed (2nd from left) at PAF Risalpur, Pakistan

Born on 17 February 1951, Rashid Minhas was commissioned as a pilot in the Pakistan Air Force. He was taxiing for take-off on a routine training light when an Instructor Pilot forced his way to rear cockpit, seized control of the aircraft and took off. When Minhas realized that the absconding pilot was heading towards India, he tried to regain control of the plane but was unable to do so. Knowing that it meant certain death, he damaged the controls and forced the aircraft to crash thirty-two miles short of the border on 20 August 1971. For this act of extreme bravery he was awarded Nishan-i-Haider, the award which takes precedence over all civil and military awards of Pakistan
