On the dawn of our nation’s 60th birthday, I feel compelled to share this painting I created last year—an ode to the Singapore of 1965.

Inspired by an old black-and-white archival photo of Bedok Road, I imagined what many kampong roads must have looked like then—quiet country lanes lined with swaying palms and marked by humble lamppost. A world so different from the vibrant, modern city we now call home.

As we celebrate how far we've come, may we never forget the spirit of those early days—the resilience, the grit, and the quiet determination of our forefathers who laid every brick of the future we now walk on. 🇸🇬❤️
