Passionate in helping nature lovers, parents and kids connect to Mother Nature through workshops. It all started way back when I was 10 years old. I've always been a book lover and visited the few public libraries in Singapore quite frequently with my mum. On one particular visit to the Queenstown library when I was in Primary 4, I chanced upon a picture book with the title 'Nepal' printed big and bold on the hard cover. I picked it up, flipped through a few pages and decided to borrow it home. It was my very first encounter with the beautiful country 'Nepal'. I fell in love with her immediately and decided then that one day, when I grew up, I would visit Nepal. It was until almost 3 decades later in 2010 that I first stepped onto Nepali soil. The friendly people, the rich culture and the beautiful majestic Himalayan mountains captivated me immediately. The pages of the book when I read at 10yo had finally came alive. Being a Geography teacher at that time, I was also well aware of the economic struggles faced by the Nepali people. I saw with my own eyes slum dwellers foraging for food at the rubbish dump. I saw many children in torn and tattered clothing in winter begging on the streets. Some young mothers with their babies strung on their backs were also doing the same. At that point in time, my heart ached for them and I told myself I would like to do something to help these people one day so that their lives will become more sustainable. Being a Geographer, I knew that one way to improve the lives of many Nepali families is through education. However, many families cannot afford to send their kids to school, especially in the rural areas. Fast forward, my 3rd visit to Nepal last Dec (2024) with my son and family has truly inspired me to kickstart my dream of becoming a social entrepreneur to help empower Nepali women and the disabled people. I want to help them by creating opportunities for them to be employed and earn sustainable income through the sale of good quality handmade products made by the Nepali women and the disabled community. With a better income, these families would be able to afford better education for their children and get more nutritious food and basic amenities in their homes. As a mother and former educator, my mission is to help empower these lovely people to have better lives for themselves and their children. Every product is lovingly handmade by these talented artisans for you. Edna’s Gift Shop is honoured to bring these beautifully handcrafted creations from the top of the world to you. On behalf of the Nepali women and disabled community in Nepal, we hope you will love these products.
