Yuen Long is where old and new live side by side — and every corner still tells a story.
From farmland and walled villages to busy streets, Yuen Long feels like a city story slowly unfolding.
Yuen Long, once written as “Yuen Long” (元塱), means a flat fertile land surrounded by hills. Long ago in the Song Dynasty, families like the Tang and Man clans settled here, building walled villages, ancestral halls, and study halls, slowly turning farmland into home.
Life was simple then—farming, fishing and salt production. Yuen Long was also known for its “silky rice”. Even today, places like the Ping Shan Heritage Trail, Tsui Sing Lau Pagoda, and Kam Tin still hold traces of old village life.
Over time, it grew from quiet countryside into a busy new town. Streets became fuller and life went faster, but the warmth of old markets, walled village traditions and P**n Choi gatherings still remain.

元朗是一個新舊共存的好地方
從農田、圍村到繁華街道，元朗就像一部慢慢展開的城市故事。
元朗最早寫作「圓塱」或「元塱」，「塱」有河邊平原的意思，因為這裡曾是一片土地肥沃、被群山環抱的大平原。早在宋朝，鄧氏、文氏等家族已在此落地生根，建立圍村、祠堂、書院與塔樓，把荒地變成生活的地方。
那時的人靠種田、捕魚、曬鹽維生，元朗更曾盛產著名的「元朗絲苗米」。時至今日，屏山文物徑、聚星樓、錦田等地方，依然保留著昔日圍村文化的痕跡。
隨著時代變遷，元朗從鄉郊逐漸發展成熱鬧的新市鎮。街道變得繁忙，但有些味道始終沒變—— 舊墟街市的人情味、圍村文化的傳承、盆菜的團聚意義，還有農田與濕地之間獨有的慢節奏。
