Last week we had the opportunity to work with the staff of Shinning Stars on the topic of Differentiation in the Inclusive Classroom.
Differentiation is a big idea, so we took it apart and put it back together in pieces small enough to use in the first weeks of term.
We explored what inclusion really asks of a classroom, the four domains of need, cognitive, emotional, behavioural and social, and the four things we can change: content, process, product and environment. From there, readiness, interest and learning profile, flexible grouping, accommodations and modifications, and how to tier one lesson three ways without writing three lessons.
Everyone left with at least one change they can make in their first week back with a new class. That is where it starts.
Thank you for the energy and the honest thinking in this room. Here is to a strong year Shinning Stars! ✨
