We continue to focus on quality in our breeding program, including providing the nutrients and minerals needed to keep our isopods consistently vibrant and colorful.

It’s probably hard to imagine these colors occurring in the wild, right? And that’s understandable they would be far too eye catching and would attract predators so easily.

We strongly emphasize captive breeding rather than collecting animals from the wild. It takes more time and comes with higher costs, but trust me, it’s worth it.

Cubaris sp. Pak Chong is generally known for having a blue body. When it develops a red stripe running along the middle of its back, it is classified by its morph as either Red Laser or Red Pak Chong.

This species is relatively easy to develop and selectively breed because it reproduces very quickly under optimal conditions. As a result, new morphs continue to appear regularly.

Cubaris sp. Mangosteen

Cubaris sp. Mangosteen is an isopod personally discovered by the author and subsequently established successfully in captive culture. Its native habitat is a cave in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand, where specimens were observed in the deeper section of the cave, in complete darkness and without exposure to natural light.

During the first three months of captive maintenance, the population exhibited considerable difficulty adapting to artificial conditions. The specimens currently remain highly photophobic, displaying strong avoidance of light. However, they exhibit an exceptionally vigorous feeding response to foods with strong odors.

Reproductive output is approximately 4–6 offspring per reproductive event.

This species shows a preference for moist soil substrates, which appear to be an important environmental requirement for successful maintenance in captivity.

A small-bodied isopod native to Thailand, distributed along the eastern mountain ranges. This taxon has been observed in small, localized populations near cave entrances where only limited amounts of light pe*****te the habitat.

The original coloration of these individuals is blue. The orange coloration is considered a naturally occurring morph that may have developed through inbreeding within small, isolated populations. In addition, the low-light conditions characteristic of their habitat may influence melanogenesis and result in reduced or abnormal melanin expression. In some individuals, the orange coloration can extend across the entire body, producing a completely orange phenotype.

Trachelipus taborskyi is a terrestrial isopod in the genus Trachelipus that cannot conglobate into a full defensive ball. It has distinctive yellow lateral margins across the pereonites.

In Bolu, TÞrkiye, it inhabits cool, humid microhabitats near freshwater, favoring stable moisture and low temperatures.

It is a detritivore feeding on decomposing plant and animal matter; in captivity it may also be attracted to protein-rich foods.

Cubaris sp. “Butterfly Firefly” has been recorded from Saraburi Province, Thailand. It occurs primarily in lowland habitats characterized by relatively dry environmental conditions. Field observations indicate that this taxon is encountered in very low numbers, particularly in areas located near agricultural land, where it may be subject to increasing habitat disturbance and anthropogenic pressure.

The most distinctive morphological characteristic is the presence of yellow lateral markings along both sides of the body, which resemble the wings of a butterfly and serve as the basis for its informal name, “Butterfly Firefly.” In addition, individuals retain the characteristic central dorsal marking observed in related Firefly forms, which represents another prominent diagnostic feature of this morph.

The species can be successfully maintained and bred under captive conditions, particularly in well-ventilated enclosures with adequate moisture. It also demonstrates a high degree of tolerance to relatively dry environmental conditions.

The reproductive season is observed primarily from May to October. Larger, mature individuals generally begin to reach the end of their lifespan between February and April.
