This morning we attended the ANZAC dawn service at Hellfire Pass. The day began at 2.30am with a one hour drive from Kanchanburi. We passed three minivans on the way. We also heard talk in the bar the night before, that they had 7 minivans going. We thought that there might be about 100 people attending. Well it was more like 1000+.

The set up and organisation was amazing. There was a golf cart service for those unable to take the stairs down to the Cenotaph. The service itself was amazing, short and on point, no long winded speeches, just respectful words honouring the memory of those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today.

After the service, we all heading back up for a 'gunfire' breakfast, whilst not totally authentic, it had a unique Thai style to it! We enjoyed tea and coffee, sausage and onion in a bread roll and party pies and quiche. There was also Thai food for breakfast.

I raised a glass of rum and milk (Bundy of course) in honour of a recently departed Veteran and also my father, who didn't serve, but did do National Service in the UK.

I know it's a very special and emotional day for many, but those who served and continue to do so, should be justly proud of their service to Country and our continued way of life

This morning we had a super early start (6.30am). Those of you who know me, know I don't do mornings well. Yesterday was 34 degrees, feels like 44, so an early start was essential. Last year you could hire your own 4 or six seater golf buggy, now you need a local driver as well. I guess thrre were just too many accidents to allow it any more.
Sukhothai was the first Thai capital and the city was well fortified with moats and ramparts. Alas the Burmese did sack the city and Ayutthya became the next capital. The ruins are extensive and some in really good condition.

Friday is market day. It is sooo hot and we were a bit early. Tomorrow is the busy day but we still managed some bargains. I met a new African dealer who had some beautiful specimens at reasonable prices, Mali garnet and also Prehinte with Epidote from Mali.
