Starting Over from Experience: Why My Brand Failed the First Time
A lot of people see a brand pause or disappear and assume the passion just died. But the truth behind why Mzz Purple failed the first time around comes down to a hard, painful business lesson about trust, influence, and boundaries.
In my opinion, what led to the downfall was my approach to marketing: I gave out far too many PR packages without a legally binding contract.
I trusted people. I sent out my products with the understanding that this was a collaborative agreement—an exchange of my hard work and inventory for their content and visibility. Instead, many took the PR packages and completely vanished. They never showcased the products on their platforms. They acted as though my brand was beneath them, all while desperately chasing and tagging mainstream, popular brands—ironically getting ignored by them in the process.
That PR failure didn't just hurt the business; it hurt me deeply. Watching people handle my dream with such disregard, combined with crushing financial challenges, threw me into a dark season of depression.
I felt overwhelmed, resentment grew, and eventually, I just gave up on my brand.
But as I’ve learned throughout my entire life, it is in the very epicenter of my deepest pain that resilience is born. I had to walk through that darkness to be reminded of who I am: I am not a quitter.
Yes, I failed. Yes, I had to stop, pack up, and watch a dream stall. But there is a massive difference between failing and being a failure. This time, I am not starting from scratch—I am starting from experience.
I know the landscape now. I know my worth, I know the value of my products, and I know exactly how to protect my brand legally and strategically moving forward. Mzz Purple isn't dead; she was just being refined.
