Survivor Rods Our mission, at Survivor Rods, is to help every angler (from beginner to pro) have the best possible fishing experience. She also passed away in the accident.

We do this by offering quality rods to fit any budget, as well as personalized advice and tips from our experienced staff. At Survivor Rods, we look forward to helping you create the fishing pole of your dreams; while also supporting a good cause. In May of 2023, the life of the founder, Derek Mortensen, changed forever. On this fateful evening, he and his family were celebrating with their eldest

son, who had just graduated from high school. They were on their way home from an evening of bowling and movie watching, when they were struck head on by a drunk driver. The wreck costed the lives of his wife, Kirstin, and their eleven year old daughter, Saige. Derek was life-flighted with serious injuries. Thankfully, their oldest daughter, Jennifer, was not in the vehicle at the time as she was at work. The drunk driver was driving with a .355 BAC level, a suspended license and expired insurance. This has put a great burden on Derek, but also inspired him to share the important message of DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE! To aid in this mission, a percentage of each sale is donated to a cause to help keep drunk drivers off the street. Derek and Saige loved to fish. She was his fishing buddy and was always up to going with him. To honor his wife and daughter, Derek has founded a company doing what they loved: creating custom fishing poles to help others create lasting memories fishing with their loved ones with custom fishing poles tailored to your needs.

Us here at Survivor Rods would like to wish everyone a fun and safe new year.

Thank you all for your patronage and support.

We typically head to Montpellier reservoir New Year’s Day for our annual ice fishing family day. This year because of the warm weather and not trusting that this recent cold snap has froze the edges. We have decided to postpone our family ice fishing day. We have reached out to those that usually go with us and informed them.

We would rather wait it out and make sure the ice is safe before risking it.
