Thank you to the kind customer who bought all of these books as a donation to help fill our Little Free Bookshelf and to help us meet our monthly goal!

We try to always have a few free books on hand for all ages, but you can also buy any book from our general collection or bring one from yours to put on the free shelf!

We also have an ongoing fund to provide books for The PLACE that you can donate to at any time!

We've received a ton of donations today to help us meet our monthly goal and we always have a lot of people ask how they can best support us. If you're looking for ways to support, check out below! And a huge heartfelt thank you to everyone who's asked and helped us in every way both today and every day 💛

If you have the cash:
- we take donations! Hit up our Ko-Fi to make a cash donation that helps us pay our bills and keeps this community space open
- buy books, stickers, and more! You can also support us from afar or online via Bookshop.org and Libro.fm for physical books, audiobooks, ebooks, and more!
- have your book club buy their books through us!
- buy giftcards for yourself or as gifts!

If you're strapped for cash:
- spread the word! Tell your family and friends about us and tag us on socials! Share our social posts!
- come to our events! People bring people and having more folks attend our events always helps!
- donate gently used books! We take book donations for our Free Shelf or to sell as used books

As always, we appreciate each and every person who walks through our door (including virtually online!). We are here for the community and we wouldn't be here without you.

📢 Calling Local Artists! We are looking for more artists for our First Thursday Art Shows. If you're interested in having your art hang on our walls, please contact Emma Webb (EW!)!

The details:

- All art needs to be "ready to hang" with picture wire or similar. If we cannot hang it from our gallery wires, it will not go up! This is due to contractual agreements with our landlord who prohibits drilling/nailing into our historic plaster walls. Emma Webb (EW!) may be able to help get picture wires on your pieces if needed, but make sure to ask about that up front!

- Artists need to provide title cards for each piece with the title, price, and contact info for payment. This makes sure that when pieces sell, we can get the correct piece to the buyer at the end of the show. An artist statement is great and often gets more engagement with the show, but is not required.

- Artist attendance at the show opening is encouraged, and please invite friends, family, and coworkers! People love to meet the artist and we often get the most engagement and sales on our opening night among the artist's friends and family.

- Show openings are the first Thursday of every month from 5-7pm.

- Art shows are part of 6th Street's First Thursday event. This means we hang the art in the days leading up to the first Thursday of every month and it will stay up all month until it's switched out for the next show. Any pieces that are sold will remain on display until the entire show is taken down. If any pieces sell, Chapterhouse will contact the buyers on the artist's behalf to come pick up any piece(s) they bought.

- We do not take payment up front for art shows! All sales made go directly to the artist, and we ask for a 20% cut of any sales made when we take down the show.

- We do fundraiser and group shows! If you have an organization that wants to raise money, you can host a show and get 100% of the sales.

If you have amy other questions, reach out to Chapterhouse Books or Emma Webb (EW!)!

📕 You Should Have Been Nicer To My Mom
By Vincent Tirado

Demons clash with inheritance claims as secrets unfold and violence is unleashed over twelve harrowing hours trapped in a house with the worst thing imaginable: family.

When Papi Ramon, the patriarch of the wealthy Abreu family dies, he gives the family one last message in the will: “One of you is el bacà, the demon that I made a deal with. Get rid of them or you will be damned.” Xiomara, the uncontested favorite of Papi Ramon (and therefore the least liked in the family), watches as everyone dismisses this as the joke of a senile old man and demands the lawyer obtain the previous will Papi wrote.

While the lawyer drives back to his office, a storm breaks out, forcing the entire family—Xiomara’s aunts and uncles and cousins—to remain in the house. And the words of Papi’s will hangs over their heads even heavier than the rain clouds. Over the course of the night, scandal after scandal is revealed to the public about the family. Suddenly a tense few hours of surviving her family turns into a vicious night of recrimination, violence, accusations…and murder.

Xiomara is faced with an impossible task: uproot a demon and somehow kill it or excise the ghosts that linger within her own family.

And the clock is ticking...

🪴📙 Bookstore Romance Day returns! Join us on Saturday, August 15 as we celebrate romance books and bookstores. We could all use a little mindful self-care this year so we're slowing it down with a weaving workshop and a chance to get your hands in some dirt!

1-3PM: This year we have a community-led workshop on how to make handwoven bookmarks. Each participant will walk away with their own mini loom and the skills to make your own bookmarks. Only 15 spots available, first come first served.

2-6PM: Roots Plant Craft will be joining us this year to guide you through building your own terrarium, or you can grab any of their regular plants for sale to spruce (ha) up your living space.

Finally, our romance sale returns with 10% off all romance books, and our Book Speed Dating makes a comeback as well! Refresher on Speed Dating on the second slide:

- Spend 5 minutes with a concealed book before moving to the next station
- Complete all 4 stations and get 20% off any of the speed dating books or a 10% off coupon for the rest of the store (good for this day only!)
