Behind the Scenes: Part Five

By this point, the flowers were finally coming together… but I’ll be honest, this part of the process wasn’t quite as smooth as I had hoped. 😂

There were a few hiccups along the way — including my tripod breaking while I was trying to film — but I also started to feel that familiar designer burnout creeping in.

This summer has been BUSY. Between designing my own weddings, freelancing for other local florists, and already starting to receive inquiries for next year, I really haven’t had much downtime.

Then I decided to add a last-minute branding shoot to the mix. Because apparently, I like to make things harder for myself. 😂

By the end, I was definitely crashing. It took me longer to design everything than it normally would, and I could feel just how tired I really was.

But somehow, the flowers came together. And when I stepped back and looked at everything, I was genuinely so happy with the results.

Part Four of my series, and we’re still in the middle of getting everything ready for the branding shoot.

This time, I decided to step outside and clip branches straight from my apple tree to use as part of my designs. I’ve never used clippings like this before, but I really wanted to give it a try. I wanted the branches to be what shaped the design rather than starting with a set idea and forcing the branches into it.

It was a little challenging because the apples made the branches heavy. But I was able to play around with the mechanics and make sure everything was stable.

Overall, I’m really happy with how it turned out. Sometimes the best designs come from experimenting with what you already have.

Next up is my fall-themed front door!

I decorate a fall door every year, but with my brand shoot happening around the same time, I decided to switch things up this year and use cut branches instead of faux. I lucked out when someone on Marketplace needed branches removed from their property, and I was more than happy to take them off their hands. 😂

You just can’t beat the look of real branches and natural elements. 🤎
