🎧 Recently Finished: The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett
I'll admit...at 650+ pages (or nearly 29 hours on audio), it's a commitment. However, I can honestly say this was a journey worth taking.
Set during the Great Depression, The Calamity Club follows a group of women whose lives become intertwined through friendship, determination, and a little bit of mischief. Each woman is carrying her own burdens, yet together they create a community filled with resilience, humor, and hope. It's one of those stories where the characters become the heart of the book.
One realization near the end really stayed with me. I found myself thinking, "I hope nothing bad happens." Then it hit me...difficult things had been happening to these women all along. That was simply their everyday reality. What stayed with me wasn't the hardship—it was their ability to keep showing up for one another, to find moments of joy, and to keep moving forward despite it all.
Those are the kinds of stories that linger with me.
I don't currently have The Calamity Club in stock, and truthfully, this is one I'd recommend experiencing as an audiobook. The narration is exceptional, and I think it's part of what made such a long story feel so engaging. If you decide to give it a try—whether in print or on audio—I’d love to hear what you think.
Do you have a book that lingered with you long after you finished it? I'd love to hear your recommendations—they're often the best additions to my ever-growing TBR list. 📚
