IYKYK šŸ˜‚

Okay, Nantucket friends… (or friends just interested in a topic that started on Nantucket this summer but quickly turned into a much bigger conversation!) I’d love your opinion on this one involving ā€œinfluencer culture.ā€

I made these little ā€œNO INFLUENCERSā€ shells at a customer’s request as a lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek nod to a phrase that’s been getting quite a bit of attention lately.

But as I was making them, I started thinking more about the conversation surrounding the phrase and realized…I’m not sure I’m prepared to take a stand on this one way or another. 😬 And does making a shell that says it imply that I am choosing a side? Maybe? I hope not!

What was originally a funny little Nantucket joke has become a much bigger—and surprisingly complicated—discussion that has sparked some pretty strong opinions.

And now I’m genuinely curious.

I’m not taking a side. I can see different perspectives, and I don’t want a shell to suggest otherwise. I just find the whole debate really interesting.

Does it frustrate me that Nantucket has gotten so crowded and filled with traffic that it has ALMOST kept my family from returning because it’s gotten so crazy? YES.

Can we single-handedly blame influencers for that? I’m not so sure.

Did I finally, after 37 years, head to ’Sconset and do the Bluff Walk because I saw an influencer’s reel on Instagram? YUP.

Did I hunt down a celiac-safe lobster roll after seeing an influencer post about getting lobster rolls while on the island? SURE DID.

Would I be ecstatic if an influencer ever posted about my shells or ornaments? You better believe it!

And therein lies the debate. šŸ˜‚

So I’m putting this out there because I really am curious: What do you think?

Funny, harmless Nantucket satire? A legitimate frustration? Unfair to influencers? A little bit of all three?

I’m genuinely interested in hearing different perspectives—just keep it friendly. šŸ¤

I know it’s only August, but I couldn’t wait any longer to share a little sneak peek of something I’ve been working on…

Introducing my 12 Days of Christmas — Nantucket Edition! šŸ‹āš“ļøšŸ¦ž

Twelve genuine Nantucket scallop shell ornaments, each inspired by something that makes Nantucket so special—from hydrangea baskets and coastal beacons to Rainbow Fleet sails, lobster dinners, lightship baskets, whales and more.

šŸŽ¶ On the first day of Christmas, Nantucket gave to me…
1 Beautiful Island šŸŽ¶

Each shell is individually created and finished with a hand-painted gold edge, pearl detail and gold ribbon for hanging.

I had so much fun dreaming up a Nantucket twist on the traditional 12 Days of Christmas, and seeing all twelve together makes me so happy. šŸŽ„

Consider this your very early Christmas sneak peek… more to come as we get closer to the holidays! ✨

Which ā€œdayā€ is your favorite? šŸ’™

So many of the things that make Nantucket special, captured in one coastal collage. šŸ‹šŸ¦žāš“ļø

This handcrafted shadowbox features nine individually decorated scallop shells, each inspired by an iconic piece of the island—from Brant Point and Sankaty Head to hydrangeas, whales, lobsters, the Nantucket map and more. Each shell is finished with hand-painted gold edging and arranged in a coastal frame accented with crisp white beading.

A beautiful way to bring a little Nantucket home with you—or a special gift for anyone who loves the island as much as I do. šŸ’™

Watercolors, Quaise rocks, and scallop ornaments, oh my!
Two days until the NISDA Artisan market! July 16th from 6-8pm, 23 Wauwinet Road. Here is a sampling of what we are bringing. Piper is hard at work making some additional watercolors, too. Watercolors will be $20-30 and under, as Piper is 13 and still honing her skills. She will also have a variety of notecards for $5 each. Come see us after a day at the beach! ā¤ļø

One of my twin daughters, Piper, is 13 and has been experimenting with watercolors for a few years. She has spent a lot of time on our vacation working on her art. This year she was invited to join the Nantucket Island School of Design and the Arts (NISDA) Artisan Market after the person who organizes it saw her work. I’m not ready for her to have social media yet, so posting here for NISDA to share in their advertising for the market. Proud of her! ā¤ļø

I’ve been keeping busy while on vacation. These pretty shadow boxes both sold at my honor system sale this morning which made me SO happy! But the kids were NOT so happy about the smell of these whelks tonight as I scrubbed them. 😬 I can’t wait to decoupage them! More rocks finished today, too! ā¤ļø

Last summer I collected rocks - YES, rocks - while I was here on Nantucket because I was struggling to find big clam shells. I made decoupage doorstop rocks and sold them near our rental. I had a few left over when it was time to leave and since there was no way I was carrying them home (SO heavy), I gave some to our realtor and Island Variety took some to try in their beautiful store. This year, I’m making them again and people seem to love them. Who doesn’t need a beautiful doorstop rock with symbols of their favorite island on them!?? šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£ It is so fun to see them alongside all of Island Variety’s other beautiful merchandise! ā¤ļøšŸŖØ If you’re following along and on Nantucket please go check them out on Old South Rd heading toward the airport!

Since 2015, we have had kids at Benfield Elementary. Nearly 11 years!!! Tonight my youngest graduates from 5th grade and it feels like the end of an era. It’s hard to imagine not having any ties to this sweet school anymore! We will miss all the wonderful teachers and staff so much. This year’s teacher gifts were Benny the Bulldog themed dishes. šŸ˜šŸ„¹ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
