The heat of the summer is always hard on equipment. We often have customers call saying they are having issues with their tractors running hot or overheating. I typically see overheating issues with units up around 5-600 hours. Don’t look past cleaning your radiator out! I hear very often the customer say they keep the radiator clean and blow it out good. Unless you are pulling the radiator and pressure washing the cooling fins, it’s not fully getting cleaned. 500-600 hours is just the base hour I recommend, or about when we typically see clogged radiators with overheating issues. These recommended hours can also greatly vary on what the tractor is being used for. If 80% or more of your hours is brush cutting you may want to cut those recommended hours in half for pulling and cleaning the radiator. All machines need maintenance!!! We’ve seen some interesting ones in the shop the last couple weeks to say the least! Someone needed to see this post…, also CHANGE YOUR OIL!!! Factory oil and filters left for 2 to 300 hours is a quick way to a very expensive repair!
If the machine is running hot, don’t keep running it! U less you want to melt your valve cover gasket, melt your oil fill plug, which also leads to needing an engine replacement. Do the simple things and you will be amazed how long equipment can last 🤷🏼♂️
