Let’s talk a little about pride and ownership tonight in conjunction with quality and repair management.

Here are a host of photos. The first 3 are my competitor’s work. The last 3? Yeah, that is our work. You see, it’s not so much about making it “pretty” but more so about building a quality product with neat work that if in the future needs to be added to, or an issue diagnosed, it doesn’t take the tech 10 hours to find and fix an issue or add a few more lights. It also is a whole lot less likely to catch on fire! Pride and ownership isn’t just a term meant to be used in the fire service. Having pride and ownership in your wiring and work keeps your cars on the road and your customers coming back for more and more. But a lot of shops are more worried about getting a vehicle in and out the door more than they are a quality product which in turn causes more issues and hassle for the end user and anyone to work on that vehicle in the future.

We may not always be the cheapest or the fastest, but you will have quality products installed on your vehicle and you’ll have a quality build backed by a 5 year parts and labor warranty. Because we do care!

Lets talk about quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness for a moment.

In this video, you will see two different patrol vehicles. One of course is a demo unit while the other is serving the streets as we speak. Both have brand new equipment on them.

The black car has Federal Signal on it. The white car has what we will call brand B on it.

Now with a visual comparison to both vehicles, and taking away the white aspects of the emergency lighting, you can still see that Federal Signal's lighting output out performs brand B. As you can also see, Federal Signal's lighting output offers a deeper more crisp blue which packs a punch and offers increased visibility during daylight hours.

What does this do for officer safety? It is simple... It offers increased visibility to the officer's car during daylight hours on the side of the highway and any other street that the officer may be performing their duties on. Also Federal Signal's system offers dimming capabilities to dim at night to eliminate blindness to passing motorist.

Quality matters and so does warranty. Both brands offer 5 year warranties, but there is a difference. Federal Signal is made in America and shipped from America. Brand B??? You guessed it, it is made in China, imported to the US, and ultimately ends up on American emergency vehicles.

Cost efficiency... Federal Signal's Pathfinder system offers more features and functions with less add on requirements. So you want a rumbler added to your vehicles to assist in traffic and intersection clearing? By going with a FS Pathfinder system, you eliminate the requirement to add an amplifier to your system as Federal's amplifier is pre built into the Pathfinder. All you have to do is purchase a rumbler capable speaker. This eliminates an approximate 400-700 dollars per car off of your final bill.

One thing that is huge to me when building an emergency vehicle for an agency is doing so in a quality manner.

This vehicle came to us from down south for some added features. When I crawled up to drill a hole in the roof for an antenna, I propped my hand on the lightbar for stabilization until I could get into place.

My hand along with the lightbar immediately went forward. Further inspection revealed that this lightbar was installed improperly and this was sitting there flopping back and forth.

After inspecting it and taking the strap bolts off, we noticed that the bolt had red locktite on it and that the bolt was stopping in the straps where the locktite began.

We ran a threaded die down the bolt and cleaned the bolt up. After reinsertion, the lightbar was affixed properly. Now the agency doesn’t have to worry about the lightbar flying off during an emergency run.

It takes a few extra minutes to make sure you do a quality job and that the stuff you’re installing is installed correctly.
