I’ve never cried exploring a museum exhibit before until I visited Amy Sherald’s American Sublime exhibition High Museum of Art in Atlanta over the weekend. Viewing the video portion, and listening to the tradegy and love story of Breonna Taylor was so moving. I’m so grateful that Breonna lives through Sherald’s work.
As with my visit to Art Basel last month, here I am again taking in beautiful, color infused and meaningful art. Most of Sherald’s work is so relatable. Possibly because I too was raised in southern Georgia and that I also bring my upbringing into my work.
It was a true honor to finally be able to see a full exhibition. I love her concentration on ordinary black American life and her intentional symbolic insertions within her art. I get it and I’m a huge fan.
I encourage everyone to visit the High to see the work by the insightful A M Y S H E R A L D, a great American artist.
