~ 1979 Mego catalog ad - Mego’s success in the world of action figures began in 1971/72. Prior to those years they were a minor family-owned importer of generic “dime-store toys.” When founders son Marty Abram’s took over he pioneered aggressive toy licensing by capitalizing on an era when Hollywood and comic book publishers didn’t realize the goldmines they were sitting on. Shaking hands with arch-rivals, in ‘72 he pulled off securing the rights to DC and Marvel comics simultaneously and ignored comic book rivalries and package-branded them under one umbrella, World’s Greatest Superhero’s! This meant a simple trip to Kmart and other major retailers could give you the opportunity to bring home one of your favorite Superheroes from comic book pages and television to you living room floor and let the fun begin! Who didn’t at least have one Mego action figure.?.I know I had several and loved them! How about you.?.were you a fan of Mego action figures.?.which ones did you have.?.do you still have them? ~
