๐ŸฅพMost people in my life today I met on or near the trail. Not only did I meet most of my closest friends on the trail while hiking, I also met the love ๐Ÿ’— of my life in a trail town. So yes, the trail provides in ways you never dreamed possible.

My love and I have traveled to 38 states together, passed years together camping in a tent ๐Ÿ•๏ธ , a truck ๐Ÿ›ป , and various trailers. This is what we love - Life Outdoors โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒœ๐Ÿชต๐ŸŒˆ ๐ŸฆŒ๐Ÿ’ซ ๐Ÿ”๏ธ ๐ŸŒฒ ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

We all Know Why!

๐Ÿฅพ After a morning of slogging through the snow โ„๏ธ and plunging through a small but brisk creek ๐Ÿž๏ธ it was time to dry out my shoes, socks, and dampened pants. ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ ๐Ÿงฆ ๐Ÿ‘–

Since we had a long day of hiking still to come we sat on this sun โ˜€๏ธ warmed rock ๐Ÿชจ to enjoy brunch. On this day I enjoyed a homemade veggie polenta egg scramble burrito. Man was it tasty!

A typical strategy for me in the cold is to heat water during morning packup. Place meal into insulated container ๐Ÿซ™ then cover with hot water and start hiking ๐Ÿ”๏ธ Usually an hour-ish into my morning walk Iโ€™ll sit on a rock ๐Ÿชจ and enjoy my meal ๐Ÿฒ while basking in the sunshine โ˜€๏ธ

Iโ€™m still experimenting with getting the perfect cooking and dehydrating technique for eggs ๐Ÿณ For 10 years Iโ€™d never been able to dehydrate eggs but I learned a secret ๐Ÿคซ Mix the egg ๐Ÿฅš with either potato ๐Ÿฅ” or corn ๐ŸŒฝ scramble and place in the dehydrator.

To my scramble I usually add red bell pepper, brocolli, and spinach. Flavor it with plenty of onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. If your feeling fancy add to this black beans, salsa, and cilantro. If youโ€™re not into cold tortillas (this has taken me a long time) then take tortilla chips and crunch a few into your meal as you eat. This is actually my preferred way to enjoy scrambles, dips, and chilies on the trail. The fresh crunch is amazing!

The storm is rolling in โ›ˆ๏ธ and supposed to drop up to 85โ€ of snow โ„๏ธ in the Sierra Nevada Mountains ๐Ÿคฏ Thatโ€™s about 7 feet (over 2 meters) in a single storm.

โ„๏ธ California depends on winter snowfall in the mountains ๐Ÿ”๏ธ to supply the state with water through the summer and fall fire season. We want more water ๐Ÿ’ฆ and less fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ

โ„๏ธ The mountains are below average for snowpack so this storm is very welcomed.

โ„๏ธ We hope we donโ€™t end up with so much snow that we have a repeat of summer of 2023 where in July this is what the mountains looked like. ๐Ÿคฏ It was one of my favorite trips ๐ŸŽ’ to the Sierra ๐Ÿ”๏ธ but my shoes ๐Ÿฅพ stayed cold ๐Ÿฅถ and wet!

โ„๏ธ We need the snow! We need the water! Hereโ€™s to some days of hot chocolate โ˜•๏ธ by the fire while we wait for the summer โ˜€๏ธ hiking season to start.
