Lantern Riddles = our favorite Chinese New Year game! 🏮✨

We’ve made it easy with print-ready riddles for the year of the horse—perfect for a home party, classroom, or storytime!

Lantern riddles are a traditional game played for 1000 years in China during the Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival (元宵节 / yuán xiāo Jié) (March 1, 2026, the last day of the CNY celebration).

You hang riddles on strings or walls, and kids take turns guessing the answers and win a prize.

Even if your baby can’t answer yet, asking simple questions builds their brain! “Do you see the cat? 你看见那只小猫了吗?” “Where’s your nose? 你的鼻子在哪里?” Then, answer the question for them using a complete, simple sentence "Your nose is right here! 你的鼻子在这里!“

Many songs in our JoJo Chinese Songs for Baby and Me, part of the JoJo Sing and Learn musical book series, include simple questions designed to spark conversations between parents and their child. Start raising bilingual children from music and conversations.

Point and name what you see—as you move through the day, use your target language if you’re raising a bilingual baby: ‘书/book,’ ‘袜子/sock,’ ‘门/door.’ Those simple, back-and-forth labels wire the brain’s language network and link sounds to meaning.

That’s why every song in the award-winning JoJo Sing & Learn series uses here-and-now everyday words—小鸟/birds, 天/sky, 苹果/apple, 泡泡/bubbles—designed to deliver the language stimulation little brains need.
