I would never discourage a good DIY setup—but organization is what makes the difference between a stressful setup and a flawless ex*****on.
If you’re planning to DIY your wedding setup, here are my biggest tips:
1. Package everything by setup area. For example, everything needed for Table 1 should be packed together in one bin or box. This saves time and eliminates guesswork.
2. If you’re hiring a setup team, don’t partially decorate a space. Starting a table or display and leaving it unfinished can confuse the team and disrupt the workflow. It’s better to leave the entire setup for the team than to have them figure out what’s complete and what’s not.
3. Over-communicate. Put all setup details in a shared document, including mockups, photos, layout diagrams, and any special instructions. The more organized your information is, the smoother the setup will be.
For this event, my clients provided:
• Centerpieces
• Vases, Candles & candelabras
• Table linens
• Napkins, Table Numbers & menu cards
The caterer provided the glassware and flatware, and Event Guys handled the draping.
