Birds not bombs. đŸȘ¶

Everything is connected.
Looking at the war as an environmentalist, I don’t just see only human suffering, I also see the damage to ecosystems and wildlife.
It’s another reason we need to continue to move away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy. ((FYI By the end of 2025, renewables made up nearly half of the world’s installed electricity capacity, driven by a massive surge in solar, so yay for that.))
I hope for a world where we stop fighting over finite resources, we invest in clean energy, and where BOTH people and wildlife can thrive because of it.

Boosting to help these sweet bonded tiels find their forever home.

Just like the song from White Christmas: “Sisters, sisters. There were never such devoted sisters!”

Nicky and Paige are bonded female cockatiels looking for their forever home. (They are returners to STAR, due to unforeseen life circumstances and through no fault of their own. We keep reassuring them that the third time is the charm!)

This dynamic duo must be adopted together. Paige (affectionately called “Banana Head” because of her yellow crest) is the leader. She is active and curious, stepping up, flying, and hanging out with humans.

Nicky is a little shy, but she is still a lovebug who will sit on shoulders all day if given the chance. She enjoys bathing, especially in a human-sized shower.

Both sisters are particularly afraid of dogs, so they'd do best in a home without canine companions. They are very sweet and good-natured, and don't seem to know a stranger.

The two enjoy sitting next to the window, watching TV, and playing with shredding toys. They are both excellent fliers, and their ideal forever home would give them plenty of space to stretch their wings!

They love to chirp and sing to each other, but the volume is fairly low. Because of this, Paige and Nicky would be happy in a forever home with shared walls.

If you’re looking for a pair of darling sisters, Nicky and Paige would love the chance to get to know you!

Home to the world's largest known Adélie Penguin population, the Antarctic islands recently gained protected-area status. Now researchers say the seas around the archipelago also need protection...

"Saving one bird will not change the world, but it would change the world for that one bird." - Birdhism (Jen Budrock)

I first said this to my dad when I was deep in bird rescue. He told me, “You can’t save all the birds in the world.”
He wasn't wrong.

The only difference between a hoarding situation and a sanctuary is level of care the animals are getting.
If you try to save too many and don't have enough help, you end subjecting the birds to the same situation you tried to save the birds from.

With that in mind, doing something is better than doing nothing. Be mindful of your limits, do your best to help when you can, take breaks, and ask for help when you need it.

Even if you can’t save them all, to the one you do save, it’s everything.

For any birdhists near any of these locations, you might want to look into for some quality bird-watching.

Chubby Bird of the Day: Jack
Birdhist: Maisie mae's flock

He was named by the smol hooman after Jack from titanic because of his icy blue coloring, anyway...

Jack is a rescue that was surrendered for reasons unknown, all that was known was his age. He is now a year old and one of the sweetest birds. He sings all day long, having learned calls from wild birds. He frequently sings goldfinch and tiel calls. We taught him to mimic a whip-poor-will call. He has been a therapy bird to our other flock members, as he is so friendly. He is target trained, recalls and sings to our vacuum. His favorite perch is the moon swing.

Chop recipe for our amazon parrot friends.

Amazon parrots are active, vocal, and prone to weight gain if their diet is not well managed. A fresh, balanced chop helps support healthy energy levels, digestion, and long term wellness.

This mix includes cooked quinoa for complete plant protein and steady energy, blueberries for antioxidants that support immune and brain health, flax seed for omega 3s and fiber, and basil for added nutrients and natural anti inflammatory support.

For Amazons, variety and portion control matter. Nutrient dense, vegetable forward chop helps maintain a healthy weight while keeping meals engaging and satisfying.

Warm up sketches with Milo 🍋

He’s the sweetest lovebird. Unfortunately he has to wear the cone of shame bc he will pluck and pick at himself to the point of bleeding. This is a common psychological side effect of forcing wild parrots into captivity.
Lolo, another absolutely sweet (likely male) lovebird suffered from a similar habit.
Parrots are not domesticated animals. They are often one or two generations from the wild.
Many of their parents were literally Rio’d (see the animated movie).
