J.M Dents "Temple Classics" series started in the 1890s and eventually included 300 titles in an arts and crafts style with dust jackets that are now scarce. The covers were black or blue leatherette. Walter Crane is an example of illustrators. The editor Israel Gollancz was a London professor, Shakespeare expert and relative of Victor Gollanzc who published under his own name. The Temple classics preceded the "everymans library" series from J.M Dent.
