Island Artisans Showing over 150 of the best Maine craft artists for the last 42 years!

Forty years ago, a group of local Maine artists came together to create Island Artisans, a shop dedicated to showcasing the best of Maine arts and crafts. In this tradition, we continue to present our own new designs each season as well as the finest original works of over 100 of Maine’s leading artisans. Our unique collection can be seen at our easy to find gallery, 99 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME

. The galleries are owned and managed by founding artists: Margaret Bundy, Sue Hill, and Chong Lim, as well as newer owners, Linda Perrin, Anna Pazereckas, and Kreg McCune.

We are beyond excited to welcome Bonnie Chase as artist showcase to our gallery.
Please help us in giving her a warm welcome and make sure to stop into the gallery during the month of July to see her nature inspired work behind our sales desk.
Artist statement:

A biologist, botanist, and naturalist by training, I have never had formal art instruction. Even so, I have been creating art since early childhood and have woven artistic expression throughout my personal and professional life.
Living on a small organic farm on MDI, I grow, collect, and forage many of the natural materials I use in my work. I create many of my own tools, dyes, inks, pigments, paints, and fibers, allowing the landscape itself to become part of my artistic process.
I describe my work as mixed media, deeply inspired by nature, the changing seasons, and the diverse landscapes of this beautiful island. Much of my work is tactile, reflecting the transient cycles and rhythms of the seasons and the rich flora and fauna of MDI. Through my art, I hope to evoke a strong sense of place and invite viewers to connect with the natural world in a meaningful way.

Happy Memorial Day:
National Moment of Remembrance:
Americans are asked to pause at 3:00 p.m. local time for a minute of silence to honor the fallen. The tradition originated in the years following the Civil War to honor fallen Union soldiers.
Civil War soldiers used many handmade items to survive. The most iconic was the "housewife" (or hussif), a portable sewing kit made of fabric or leather containing needles, thread, and buttons for mending uniforms. Soldiers also hand-carved their own pipes, made scrap-metal utensils, and crafted toys like clothespin dolls in field hospitals
