Bearing edge work on my 1979 Premier kit. Original edges weren’t in bad shape at all, but due to the factory outside edge profile, modern drum heads had to be forced on and tuned quite high before getting a solid tone. Now my Remo Coated Emperors drop right on and spin freely and get their first note at a much lower tuning. 👌🏻👌🏻

It’s been a minute! Been enjoying the PNW summer with the fam ☀️☀️☀️ but more drum stuff coming soon. In the meantime, I picked up a couple marching snares from the 40’s/50’s that I thought were super cool. This Roger’s cleaned up so well! Will probably turn into a rack tom for a future kit. Not bad for an 80+ year old drum!

Next up: 1977 Premier Super Olympic. Only made for one year under the “budget” brand Olympic, later to become Premier’s high end Soundwave series.

Original red wrap was is in good shape, but wanted to do something different to elevate the design beyond a typical red kit that gets overlooked. Will be doing an ebony stain with a matte finish. So far looks 👌🏻👌🏻

The Kent found a new home and safely arrived at the East Coast this past week. 🎉🎉 So fun to have it end up much closer to where it originally came from!

Picked this 70’s Slingerland up a couple years ago for a really good deal and it became my personal kit I had to keep around. Such a classic sound that is highly adaptable to many styles. It’s built like a tank and I love all the visible scars it has collected the last 50+ years.

As a kid I always dreamed of owning a Premier kit. There was one in the window of the tiny music store we went to in Oregon City but could never afford it.

Came across this kit a couple months ago and it brought me full circle, so had to pick it up! I think this one will be staying with me.

Made in England in 1979, and based on the story I believe I’m only the third owner. Sat in storage for most of its life. Still need to cut some new edges but it cleaned up so well, nearly brand new except for some dings in the kick. 😍😍

“I hope it actually sounds good 😬” - the thoughts I have when I invest many hours on these kits before playing them. This one did not disappoint! Super thin maple shells + full round-over edges =👌🏻👌🏻

Now available! This 1967 Kent definitely took me on a journey but after tuning it and playing it for the first time, all the effort was so worth it.

A major part of why I do this - bringing new life to something that might have otherwise been thrown away or left to slowly fall apart. There are MUCH faster and easier ways to make money, but seeing these kits restored in the end brings me so much joy.

Coming this weekend! This one gave me a run for my money but love how it turned out in the end. Didn’t plan on re-wrapping but the original wrap and my router table didn’t get along too well. Now it’s basically a brand new, 59 year old kit ready for its next chapter!

Recently came across this 1960’s Ludwig in need of restoration. Unfortunately, “restoration” was nowhere near possible for almost everything - meaning, mushrooms growing and all the wood was softer than cardboard. Sad day for the kit, but thankful the snare still has life left and should shine up beautifully!
