๐Ÿ”Œ ASUS ROG charging port replacement โ€” why it's a bigger job than it looks

This ROG G752VT came in with a charging fault. Classic symptoms: wiggle the plug and it charges, let go and it stops.

Here's what most people don't expect. On a 17" gaming laptop the charging port isn't something you reach from the outside. To get to it, the whole bottom comes off and we work around dual cooling fans, the copper heatpipe stack, the RAM bank, and the antenna cable that runs the length of the board. These photos are the actual teardown.

โšก WHAT KILLS A CHARGING PORT
โ€ข Tripping over the cord โ€” gaming power bricks are heavy and yank hard on the jack
โ€ข Charging with the cable bent or under tension
โ€ข Years of plug/unplug cycles working the connection loose
โ€ข Heat cycling around the port

๐Ÿ”Ž CATCH IT BEFORE IT FAILS COMPLETELY
โ€ข Only charges at a certain angle
โ€ข Charging light flickers or cuts out
โ€ข Port feels loose or wobbly
โ€ข Says "plugged in" but the battery keeps dropping
โ€ข Heat or a burning smell at the plug โ€” stop using it immediately

๐Ÿ”ง The good news on this model: the G752's charging port sits on its own small board, connected to the mainboard by a harness โ€” so it can be replaced without desoldering anything from the mainboard. On plenty of other laptops the jack is soldered directly to the board, and it becomes micro-soldering work. That's where a lot of shops stop and quote you a whole new motherboard instead.

We do the board-level work either way. Replacing a part beats replacing a laptop.

We come to you โ€” we collect the machine, do the work at our bench, and bring it back tested.

๐ŸŽฎ Gaming Laptop Keyboard Repair โ€” Before & After

This ASUS ROG Strix came to us with its W, A, S, and D keys destroyed โ€” the fate of many hard-working gaming keyboards.

We picked it up, replaced the full keyboard deck at our shop, and brought it back ready to game. Swipe to see the finish โ€” fresh WASD keys with the RGB glowing through, and the laptop back up and running.

If your laptop keyboard is missing keys, double-typing, or not responding, we can fix that. We pick up, repair at our shop, and drop it back off โ€” across Beebe, Cabot, Ward, Austin & Searcy, AR.

๐Ÿ’ป PC Repair Lesson โ€” Sometimes the "easy fix" creates a bigger problem.

A customer here in Cabot came to us because his gaming PC suddenly wouldn't display anything. He had just installed a new modular power supply himself, and the screen stayed black.

We tested both power supplies. Both worked.

Here's what actually happened:

During the install, he reused one of the old PSU's modular cables on the new PSU. Same connector shape โ€” but the internal pinout was different. The cable plugged in fine on both ends. But the moment he powered on, his 3.5" hard drive got 12 volts on pins meant for 3.3 and 5 volts. The drive shorted out instantly, and the surge took the GPU down with it before the PSU's overcurrent protection could trip. โšก

Two casualties from one incompatible cable.

The fix: remove the dead drive, install a working GPU, double-check every cable, and power it on. The PC came back to life โ€” RGB and all. ๐ŸŽฎโœจ

The lesson: never mix modular PSU cables between brands or even different models from the same brand. They look identical, they fit, and they can absolutely destroy your hardware. Always use the exact cables that shipped in the box with your PSU.

If something stopped working after a PSU swap, don't keep plugging things in โ€” bring it to us before the damage spreads. We come to you across Beebe, Cabot, Ward, Austin, Lonoke, and Searcy, AR. Same business day on most repairs.

๐Ÿ”ง Nintendo Switch Error 2101-0001? We Fixed It.

This Switch showed "Error Code 2101-0001" and wouldn't work. That points to a failing M92T36 โ€” the small power-management chip that controls charging. It usually dies from a damaged charging port, a bad cable, or a cheap third-party charger.

A reset won't fix it โ€” the chip has to be replaced. We removed the faulty M92T36, fitted a new one, checked the USB-C port, and the Switch is back up and charging like new. ๐ŸŽฎ

๐ŸŽฎ PS5 Overheating & Shutting Down? It Might Be the Liquid Metal.

Sony cools the PS5's main chip (APU) with liquid metal instead of regular paste โ€” over time it oxidizes, forms dry spots, or migrates off the chip (often after sitting upright for months). That leaves hot spots, so the PS5 overheats and hits a safety shutdown. ๐Ÿ”ง

This one came in shutting off mid-game. We clean off the oxidized liquid metal, reapply fresh liquid metal evenly across the APU, and get it running cool and quiet again โ€” a delicate job best left to a pro.
